Crestron AirMedia

I teach math and chemistry. I’ve been using an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil for my classes but to project I’ve been tied to the podium. We got a new Air Media installed in one of our classrooms. I’ve only used it a few times but find that it has potential to be a game changer for my classes.

Absolute garbage. The company should be ashamed to put something as poorly coded as this app into the market. Freezes, crashes, doesn’t connect.

This app screwed my laptop up. DO NOT DOWNLOAD unless you want to risk your laptop.

While AirMedia hardware works in almost all network environments, the mobile hardware doesn't benefit from the same attention. For example, in the image picker, all your images are "flattened" into one long 1000+ thumbnail gallery. The native iOS, album aware, picker is far more useful. Inexplicably, it was probably more work to create the inferior gallery than it would have been to use the default iOS picker.

0 stars. This product claims to wirelessly display ppt, pdf, doc files (over a Crestron projector). In fact, it can only display image files - with each image as a separate file. This has been confirmed with Crestron tech support. Upshot: it's useless for its explicit purpose. For all practical purposes, iOS devices should be deemed to be unsupported for this product.

On startup, only show a black screen for a few seconds then crash.

Clunky interface that drops constantly. I don’t know why my company uses it. Totally worthless.

This app works great, the only thing holding it back is that it integrates with the iOS to preserve resources. This has the unfortunate side effect of making it the users responsibility to learn to use it. Once I figured out how to use it, and did so multiple times across multiple classroom setups where this was installed, it became significantly easier to use. As the app does everything it’s designed to flawlessly I grant it 5 stars. That said, the school network where this is in use is not optimized for audio and video streaming as of yet and there are noticeable bandwidth issues, problems which this app cannot fix as it runs on the school network.

Doens’t let my iPad connect to any tv with air media.

I have tried to use this app for years in my university classrooms, it worked back in 2020, but not since about 2021.
