Description

Remotely access your Raspberry Pi shell from any network without dynamic DNS, portforwarding or VPN.
* DOES IT WORK BEHIND NAT?
Yes. The client initiates a secure websockets connection to the Dataplicity service. This means that it works most places where there are firewalls, NAT or other network obstructions in place.
* HOW DATAPLICITY WORKS
The Dataplicity client uses a opportunistically-connected secure web connection to provide a communications channel between your device and Dataplicity, and your web browser attaches to the other end of that channel.
* DO I NEED TO ENABLE SSH?
No. Dataplicity does not require SSH, telnet or any other network services to operate. The client is self-contained and does not open any network ports on the device.
* DOES IT OPEN A LOCAL PORT ON THE PI?
No. Client connections are initiated from the device end and do not open any local ports.
* DO I NEED TO INSTALL SOMETHING ON THE PI?
Yes, you need to install the Dataplicity agent on the Pi. You can view the source on GitHub.
* DOES DATAPLICITY AGENT RUN AS ROOT?
No. When you log into the Dataplicity shell you still need to explicitly ask for super user rights to gain full control.

I have played with a lot of other software that offers remote access to Linux machines and by far this is the easiest to operate..

Very easy to setup! And very easy to use! I wanted to play and learn about linux when Im away from the computer. Since Im newbie I spend hours to find the app and still couldn’t figure it out. I was about to give up and dataplicity was my last try and boom it only took 5min!!!!! and works great!!! with my phone without using same wifi as raspberry pi!!! I personally never write reviews on web but Dataplicity saved me from nightmare !!!! Thank you!!!!! You guys deserve to get 5 stars!!!!

Awful scrolling

vgbltsk on

United States

The app neither auto scroll not you can do it manually when there is no room on screen. At the moment app is useless for iOS.

Good except for a few bugs

heyijustwanna on

United States

Bug 1: In-Call Status Bar pushes the terminal down and hides lower half of special function keyboard (arrow keys, TAB, etc. ). Bug 2: 3rd Party Keyboards of different height block bottom half of special function keyboard.

Simplicity

Dataplicity works very well as a convenient way to access a shell from practically anywhere. The phone access is great, but even better is the web access, as you have the luxury of a full size keyboard and such. Highly recommend.

Just remember to use "su <usernamehere>" to change to your main account rather than just the dataplicity default

This application helps me manage my test web server that I use before I publish my sites onto a hosting server.

No way to delete devices. Unreachable devices stay that way.
