This app is meant for people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) problems who are following a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programme or want to start with such a programme. DBT provides tools for people with BPD to regulate their emotions and control their impulses.
The app provides information about DBT and BPD. The DBT Travel Guide contains more than 200 different skills and mindfulness exercises. The app can provide support in moments of crisis through its crisis section. For the DBT therapist, the app contains a ‘think of’ scheme, full of practical guidelines. Furthermore, the app offers the possibility to write down agreements between client and therapist and to digitally fill in the diary card.
Yes, DBT Travel Guide is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is DBT Travel Guide legit?
🤔 The DBT Travel Guide app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
- Very closely aligned to intended structure of DBT
- List of all modules and skills that come under them, and how to actually practice them. Useful graph summaries to track progress.
- Daily diary card that you can easily modify for personal target behaviour and export easily to share with your care provider.
- Section on crises and which DBT skills to employ.
- Helpful audio guides all in one place.
- Can do a behavioural chain analysis in-app which is very helpful.
Overall 5/5, simple design that is user friendly and very closely aligned with most DBT courses.

Don’t like the app but love that it scrambles my name!
It works!
I downloaded this app, not expecting it to work so well for my everyday life. It has helpful audio that I listen to as I fall asleep, which can be somewhat hypnotic as I listen intently and soak in the message.
Today, I got very angry over something small but using the crisis anger action and reading and following the exercises instead of being angry for the rest of the day/week I managed to calm down within 15 minutes. That’s groundbreaking for me, and I’m so thankful for this app.
If your struggle with BPD, I’d recommend this app 100%.
Great concept
This app has achieved a fairly nice layout. I feel as if the diary entry options may have to be fleshed out more, and easier access to all skills and their applicable situation. Perhaps add an “overall” feeling to the days, indicated with an emoticon or something similar. So far, I haven’t encountered any bugs. I enjoy this app, and I thank the developers for taking the time to make it.
Not for me
Not helpful.
Not working
I love this app… but I can’t send the data to
My therapist. The button isn’t working to send email or report error.
So helpful!
This app really has everything. It is so nice to have all the DBT skills right on my phone to refer to at any time. The one small thing that could be improved would be the font color and size. It’s all in gray and small when you click on a skill category. It can be hard to read. Other than that, it’s perfect.
Life changing
Not knowing what was wrong with me for 30 years, this is the first time I’ve been able to hold the answer to emotional regulation in my hands. Literally saved my life a few times, or at least saved me from self harm.
Saves me during crisis and great DBT skills reminder
This is a great app that is easy to use, free and focuses on the four DBT modules. I’ve used this daily and on the occasion that I am in distress. Features that I love are the recorded guided mindfulness practices and the Crisis section, where I can click on it and depending on what I’m experiencing, it routes me to the set of skills that will help me. I’ve tried so many DBT apps and by far this has been the most life changing and helpful. To the developers— please allow users to donate to you as a form of thanks. Thank you for creating this.
Stripped down, but WOW.
No frills, and the English is very slightly...well maybe it’s just not American that I’m used to. But it seems to comprehensively cover all skills I vaguely remember learning when I did DBT 15+ years ago. I can’t believe they are able to provide this for free and judging from how few reviews there are, nobody knows about it! I just downloaded it and haven’t gotten into it much yet, but so far it seems amazing.
