I just changed the port to the port # that I monitor and it was able to detect the packet from LAN or WAN. Tested it using iPhone to send the package, and didn't have to forward the port to the iPhone's ip address either. I think this is good to test if your router forwards the magic packet or not. I used it to see if my automatically computer wakes because of wol or some scheduled task. It ended up being Windows media center scheduled update... The app doesn't work in the background! It crashes when I open up from multitasking. This mean I had to let the app run on iPhone screen to monitor the network.
I have set up my DD-WRT router to forward wol packets arriving from the WAN (with the Mac address of my iPhone) and broadcast them on port 9 on my LAN. Although my pc wakes up upon receipt of the magic packet (containing the Mac address of my pc) this app doesn't record any network traffic regardless of target Mac address. The text box for changing port number is also awkward because it pressing "return" does not cause the keyboard to disappear. You have to press somewhere above the keyboard to make it disappear after changing port number otherwise you can't even see the"monitor" button!
