Deseret Bookshelf LDS Books Reviews

Awesome!!

Siraaron74 on

I love this app!!! I am going blind and it’s harder to read…. But being able to listen to books is amazing and is such a blessing. Books are always awesome.love love love this app!

Used to be great

kaibird42 on

United States

This app used to be great, but no longer seems to support playback while your device is locked. Like sometimes it will work, but sometimes it won’t. This has happened with the last few books I have listened to, so it’s been going on for at least two months. I tried to contact app support, but the link takes you to a page that no longer exists. Fix this feature and I will love the app again.

Loosing faith

2thDocUSA on

United States

Can’t seem to get through to the creators of this app. Have had lots of trouble with it and keeping my account open. I try to purchase an annual membership which is advertised at 69 bucks a year then go to pay and it’s 99 bucks a year. I love the material/content but the customer service is getting progressively worse! I’m going to keep trying but if you want a better review you’re going to have to email me back and get my account information back to where it was!

No more split view in iPadOS!

A11iOop on

United States

Had to drop a star because the last update no longer supports a split view and iOS. I love to read my e-commentary book along with my e-scriptures so I can make notes in my scriptures. It is much easier to do in split view. Please bring split view back!

High ratings with some suggestions

Great reader and audiobook functionality! Very user friendly. One thing that needs improvement is that when listening to audio books/talks/etc., when I receive texts or other notifications, the book or talk does not pause when my digital assistant announces the text or notification. Having the audio pause when notifications come in is something I am used to with other apps, and it is a really nice feature that allows me to pick up where I left off and not have to find where I was, especially when text threads interrupt every few moments. :) I would love to see that feature implemented in this app as well.

Tech is horrible

Sunnysdoghouse on

United States

I would love to give this app 5 stars, but the tech is too frustrating. Searching is so difficult. Why can’t I see all of the author’s books in a list? Instead I have to search by title. I don’t know all the titles by an author. But the so freezes ALL the time. I used to have to delete and reinstall a few times a year. Then about once a month. For the past year I’ve had to reinstall it about 2-3x a month. Now it’s getting to be about every 2-3 days!!! I don’t think my phone is the problem. It’s a new 14 I’m going to start leaving a1 star review entering I have to reinstall it. Hopefully it will get someone’s attention. If you look at the other 1 star reviews, they have the same problems. Update: Now that I’ve deleted the all and reinstalled it, it won’t let me download a book!!! So frustrating. I can’t even find a number for support. Update: the tech support page said there’s an error. They don’t even exist. No wonder the app functionality is so bad!!!!

Great content; Poor functionality

G1Columbia on

United States

The app suffers from at least two fundamental and inexplicable defects. First, it has you download individual chapters piecemeal instead of the entire book at one time. This causes various problems, including occasionally (and sometimes unwittingly) skipping over an entire chapter that either hasn’t downloaded yet or did not download successfully. Second, when one triple taps headphones to rewind a bit, instead of just rewinding 30 seconds or something, it rewinds all the way to the beginning of the chapter. I can think of lots of situations where a listener would want to rewind just a little (wanting to listen to an important point again, wanting to back up a little after letting one’s mind drift for a minute, etc.), but I can’t imagine anyone wanting to back up all the way and start a chapter over again, at least not frequently. The reason I refer to these flaws as inexplicable is that they could easily be corrected. Other, far more popular listening apps like Audible don’t have these same flaws. Why not just copy success? By the way, I’m not inclined to post negative comments publicly. I only do so here as I could not find a way to submit feedback to the developers offline despite searching for a way to do so.

Good content, bad app

Kiddy9391 on

United States

While I really enjoy the content on Deseret Bookshelf, the app itself has some issues - and the support team isn’t incredibly responsive or helpful. So I’ve talked to others I know who have the app to double-check these aren’t issues isolated to my phone or account (and they aren’t). Especially lately, the app constantly crashes and the only way to get it working is to uninstall and reinstall it. Which would be less burdensome if I didn’t have to keep re-downloading the ebooks and audiobooks I was midway through. The wishlist feature doesn’t reliably work. Speed on audiobooks only goes to 2x speed. I wish it went faster, as Libby, Audible, etc do.

Love it, but it’s super glitchy

hazeleyesheal on

United States

Actually love the DB app. It’s just really glitchy. It’ll work for a day, then the next the app will start to open, then crash. I then have to delete the app and then reinstall. Sign in and it’s fine. Then the next day it crashes again. It’s the only app on my device doing this which leads me to believe it’s the app?? Maybe I’m wrong…

SPLIT VIEW on iPAD

ElderDawg on

United States

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we get Split View support on iPad? I would love to have my gospel library app open side-by-side with the books i read on Deseret library to be able to add notes and annotations and cross references without closing the app and then re opening it and it loses my place every single time I feel the need to add something to my actual scriptures. Otherwise, great app so far :)
