Description

Parents puzzle over questions like this. The answers aren’t always simple. Nobody can pretend that an app (or even a team of child psychologists) will provide them all - but DevelopYourChild® could give insights.
DevelopYourChild® is easy to use and can provide practical, real, insights and ideas... based on Personality Type (also known as Persona). Pioneered by psychologist Carl Jung, it’s a popular and effective psychology tool to aid understanding of differences between people.
A few questions are used to help the parent evaluate or narrow down the Personality Type of the child. Then a range of output information can be browsed for that and other Personality Types, including:
- Hints and tips for interacting more effectively
- Disposition, how particular Personality Types may prefer to interact and play
- How they may prefer to communicate
- What might be helpful when they get displeased or cranky
- How they may prefer to learn
- How they may react to school
- Which extracurricular activities they may prefer and excel at
- How others may see them
- What sort of career they may be drawn to
- Famous people who might share that Personality Type
Sometimes the initial Type/Persona identified can be startlingly accurate. Other times it can take a little longer or it is less obvious. But to focus too much on the details of the match misses the point: the main benefit of understanding Type is not to 'Typecast', but to raise awareness and to encourage thinking about different personal needs and ways to interact.

Limitations
The concept of Psychological Type provides an overall framework for understanding differences between children, and between children and adults.
The descriptions are based on observation, research and analysis of behaviour and preferences. Because all children are unique and still developing, they may not show all of the qualities or behaviours described or may not exhibit them with the same level of intensity. So the information presented in the app should not be taken as advice for interacting with individual children. But the general description should be familiar if the Type has been correctly identified.
This app is intended to give only an overview of the value of understanding Psychological Type, and is not capable of delivering an individual in-depth analysis for every child.
Note: The “Younger than 5” button doesn’t imply all children under 5 demonstrate sufficient preferences or behaviours to result in a full or accurate analysis. 5 years of age is simply a reasonable boundary to be able to ask more detailed questions.
Generally, the older the child the more accurate. The outputs depend on accurate answers to the questions posed, and there is also no guarantee that Type theory will necessarily suit or fit everyone. For younger children, where there may not always be sufficient information to fully identify all the aspects of Personality Type, there can still be merit in identifying what is clear and observable, and in keeping the questions in mind so when the child does start to develop noticeable behaviour patterns, it may be easier to understand why. This app does not address the behaviours or preferences of babies, toddlers or of children faced with special mental or physical challenges - in such cases individual professional advice should be sought.
A parent can use companion app ParentCoach® to evaluate their own and their partner’s Personality Types and browse through parental strengths, examine what different Types might prefer or enjoy as a parent, what they may find it less easy to do, some ideas to take a different approach, possible challenges and ideas for a whole range of Personality Types, not just their own.

credible and scientific parenting

having looked around this is something for parents which seems to have some science behind it compared with other products, and the outputs stand up to inspection. very detailed. there must be some variability between children and their ages, but guess that will always be so.

We should teach this in schools... and not just applicable to kids

Very helpful for ideas about my son. But the big thing is, I was able to use it on myself just as easily. It brought back memories of when I was a child, and I started to appreciate what my mom went through with us as kids. We should teach this stuff in school. Compulsory. N

Startlingly accurate

I have two children, and was able to identify both pretty easily. The youngest is only 3 and 2 months; it might be harder to do on a much smaller child, but I guess it says that in the pre-sales message. I really liked the hints section, which gave me some ideas. As for our eldest boy turning out like a certain Mr Bieber, not so sure about that...
