DEVONthink To Go 3

A great app to file and find all your important data

To get full advantage of this powerful app a bit of effort is required. End result for me is that I have EVERYthing at my fingertips including a very large library

After updating the latest version, v 3.3.1, it is extremely slow to open a group - taking about 4-5 seconds. It’s annoy. If you kill the app and reopen it, it will be faster for the current level groups. If you go to upper level groups, it is slow again. Please fix it asap. It’s unusable at the moment.

If you are serious about knowledge management and zettelkasten, this app is an essential tool. For me it underpins my entire system, and works perfectly along side Obsidian.

I have used Devonthink for Mac for years in an engineering context and I was initially interested when the app came to iPad. Sadly the iPad app has stability problems. Version 2 used to crash unexpectedly when just noodling around after a few minutes of work and had done so for years. Even sadder, the current version does the same for me - well actually it seems to crash VERY effectively. I would not like to have to rely on it in a work situation. To add insult to injury - the icon has sadly lost its devonian period appeal since the last version - and adopted the flat boring style that seems to be prevalent today.

On my iPhone 15 Pro, there is no navigation bar at the bottom. The only icon visible, is the cloud icon. So I can't get into the settings. And without access to the iCloud sync settings, I can't select the databases I need. That makes the app useless on my phone. On the iPad Pro, everything is fine and I'm happy. iPad: 5 Stars iPhone: not a single one.

it's hard to change your digital lihe again and again to find the new better home, but i decided to give it a shot with devonthink. my main criteria is voiceover support - and i am happy this works well. syncing with the cloud works too but it's not exactly out of the box - that takes care of backups. mostly i love that it supports a lot of file and media types that it lets me save a link or web archive or a password protected zip. it integrates with files app and allows dynamic filtering with tags and so much more. it's better than onenote or other apps that just focus one one or two mime types

Wenn ich nur eine App installieren dürfte, wäre es ohne Frage DEVONthink (-Server auf Macs & DTTG auf iOS-Geräten). Die zweite App wäre Obsidian. Mehr brauche ich nicht wirklich zusätzlich.

Auch im zweiten Anlauf nach einem Jahr Abstand will es mir nicht gelingen, eine funktionierende Synchronisation mit der Desktop App herzustellen. Vielleicht sollte ich noch mal den Resetknopf drücken und bei null anfangen, aber das ist alles so mühsam und ich habe keinen Mumm mehr. Synchronisation über iCloud (CloudKit) meldet mir trotz mehrfacher Initialisierung üben wie drüben einen Fehler: ungültiger Schlüssel. Nun synchronisiere ich wieder über iCloud Drive und kann auf DevonThink to go verzichten.
