主脑是一个头脑游戏，在一块解码棋盘上玩，用四个颜色针脚覆盖，目的是为了猜密码以及在游戏里重新获得隐藏的行。在盖子下有八个水平行，玩家（密码破译者）能够猜什么颜色以及移动针脚。在水平行的右边，有给钉子的洞，在这里软件在每次猜密码后会给予密码破译者以反馈。
- 黑色的钉子表明放置正确颜色正确
- 白色钉子表明放置错误颜色正确
- 没有钉子表明位置和颜色都不正确
密码破译者每次猜覆盖的颜色只获得一个钉子。如果在盖子后面有两个相同颜色的针脚，玩家猜测有三个相同颜色的针脚，那么玩家仍然能够获得两个表明正确颜色的针脚。
一旦在神机妙算里获得了提示，密码破译者尝试新的猜什么颜色和破解密码，通过提示的帮助以及逻辑思维。
在此款益智游戏里，当行数表明你只有八次猜密码机会时；在你猜对什么颜色的时候会获得积分，当你破译密码时获得额外的奖励积分。如果你在此逻辑游戏早期破解密码也会获得额外积分奖励。
