Description

Don't forget the spoon was initially thought up in Yosemite National Park, sitting in the cold near Half Dome and Clouds rest one chilly February night. My wife and I forgot to packs spoons and we were trying to eat dinner in outside our tent in the cold snow!

Don't Forget the Spoon allows you to create your own packs for simple day hikes or multi day overnight backpacking adventures. Check out all our features:

- Personal Gear Locker: You can add all your gear to your own personal gear locker saved online, or search for gear from our community gear locker to save to your own.

- Create custom packs: You can create custom packs for simple day hikes or multi-day overnight backpacking adventures. You can add items to your pack by searching for gear from the community gear locker or adding your own gear to your personal gear locker saved online.

- Pack weight statistics: You can add your gear to your own packs to see pack weight statistics. This feature allows you to identify where your excess weight is.

- Calorie tracking: You can track calories for your trip, based on all the snacks and meals you have in your pack
Mark and track items packed: You can mark and track items packed, so you never forget that spoon at home! You can also swipe right on items in the pack to mark them as packed to ‘tick’ items off quickly.

- Sub Packs: You can create sub-packs for your personal bag, toiletry bag, food bag, etc. and then add them to the main packs. This feature helps you create packs more efficiently, by allowing you to add multiple items at a time with one tap

- Photo Capabilities: You can take photos of your gear and add them to your packs.
Share Your Pack: You can share your pack with friends and family, with a simple link. You do not need the app installed to view a shared pack, any web browser will work!

- Browse Public Packs: Browse a list of public packs created by others for inspiration. Packs are sorted by different tags.

- Pack Analyzer: Analyzes the gear in your pack to provide helpful tips and reminders when planning a day hike or multi-night adventure. It will help you not forget more than just your spoon!

Good App

Good app. Could be great. Almost there but not quite. Item names don't auto capitalize No apparent way to reach out to dev directly , other than Reddit (no go) or a confusing community site.

Useful app with clean and simple UI

Very user friendly and helpful! Will definitely make it easier to visualize what’s taking up weight, and help to address it. Oh yeah and it’s FREE with NO ADS?? Need I say more?!

An Essential App for People with Lots of Gear and Lots of Trips

There’s a lot of potential here, but being able to add metadata to gear items is sorely missing. Being able to add a custom line/property to a gear item (such as insulation R value, or rope tension rating, or purchase date, or down fill weight, or number of carabiners of this type, or clothing size, or many other essential properties) is not yet possible. Being able to add a custom “Pack Category” is currently possible, but u can’t customize the properties available to that category (which is currently very limited and universal for all items). You cannot add a /Sleeping Pad/ category that includes the properties of (R value, length, width, thickness, or anything else you might need to reference when planning a trip) in addition to weight. This is an essential and missing feature (I have the Pro version). The “lighter options available” suggestion provided by the app, is also not useful, as every item of gear is unique in what application it best serves, and that judgement can only be made by the user and the intended application to have value. Somebody soon is going to get this type of app right (in terms of features) and they will win the day. (There’s also bugs)

Initial use - looks promising!

Found this app via Reddit and the developer had some great discussion/feedback, so I thought I would download it and try it out. So far, everything has been really user-friendly, though my understanding is one can’t get import previously existing lists. Thankfully I didn’t have one so having to create a list was a useful exercise for me, not redundant. While setting up my gear and pack, I discovered it could do everything I would want it to do, generally via a menu I hadn’t looked at yet. My two thoughts for feedback thus far are: 1) an option to separate essential weight from base weight - I like to see what my bare essentials weigh (Eg pack, shelter, sleeping) separate from my total base weight (including accessories, clothing, electronics, etc) 2) when looking at the pack weight summary, it looks like some items are being filtered by names other than the Pack Category. For example, if I go to “Pack,” the items under “Pack” lists items like my “PackIt Gourmet Food; if I misspell PackIt then it gets excluded, making me thing it’s searching for items that say Pack, instead of items that are in the Pack Category “Pack.” Just makes things more cluttered visually, or worse, is double counting the weight. Excellent app otherwise!!!

Work in Progress already VERY useful!

Fairly new Backpacking gear list and weight app. (Would be useful to any folks who want to travel light) I’m already seeing ways to reduce weight and I haven’t even fully utilized the gear locker yet. The developer, M Jones, is updating it regularly and is very interested in user suggestions. I could easily see this becoming the premier pack list app. I decided to purchase an annual subscription to the “pro upgrade” not because I need it yet, but because I wanted to support the continued development of the app!
