It solves the problem of not being able to use AirDrop over ethernet alone (AirDrop requires Wi-Fi and seemingly BlueTooth). In many ways it is more flexible than AirDrop.
I've been using DropCopy forever, and love it. Totally the easiest way to transfer anything, including clipboard contents, among my desktop, laptop, iPad and iPhone.
I have used this for years to move files & the clipboard between machines. It's often more reliable than AirDrop & is great for longer distances within a space (ie. longer than Bluetooth range)
This tool makes it SO easy to transfer files between our multiple Macs, including one still on Snow Leopard! Now also serving a machine with Mojave, and Sierra. I really love this application. In 2020, briefly tried v3 – drop zone kept disappearing – back on v2.05, all good! Still using this superb app, now on Ventura.

Been using this forever now, and it still works great. The developer keeps it up to date. "I don't want to copy files easily between two computers on the wifi" -said nobody, ever. Thanks Dropcopy, this even works on two macs with different OS versions without any setup! Works great.
A great app. Easy to use and handles what I need. Couldn’t ask for more.
I have had this app for as long as I remember, might have been from when it first came out, or around then. But it has been a CONSTANT on every Mac I own. It works to move files, it does it well, and with no problems. This works when AirDrop does not. I cannort recommend it enough. If you need to mnove files between macs, this is for you.
I've installed this on all my Macs since when... I often run several machines connected with a KVM and use this to shuttle files and info among them. Today I sent a Zoom link my old laptop because it has a camera, just copied to a textfile and sent. Thank you!!!
