Duskwood Reviews

Boring

Super boring and slow. Too much messaging and not enough games and puzzles.

If a great roller coaster stopped periodically to make you wait in line again

Ok so I have a lot of opinions about this game, but I’ll try to not belabor it. It’s gonna be long though. Sorry. I find it interesting that this game advertises itself on its realism and investigation and doesn’t really mention the thing you are actually going to spend most of your time doing: incredibly tedious match 3 games. Like I cannot stress enough how I started out fine with them and then grew to hate them. They happen way too often, get bonkers difficult at times, cost 9 stars to get 5 extra moves, and the rules are never explained or have consistence. For example, because barriers like ice and lines cannot be swapped whatsoever with the pieces, i thought the tiles were the same until I just stumbled into figuring out they aren’t. Also, doing 5 of the same color will get you one that will gather up all of that color or generate more of another power up. The flashing cube which I think takes 6?? Idk but that one can be combined with anything. Those rules are constant. 4 of a color creates a power up where you can either combine it for another power up or you can combine it with more of the same. And either it’ll clear a column, a row, or blow up a small radius. And that’s fine except there’s no consistency in my play through of what triggers what outcome. In the same level I’ve had a power up in a vertical line do a column, a row, and a radius. That makes strategy impossible at times. Add in barrier walls and bombs that if they reach zero and you get me wanting to strangle whoever put these in. Because also did I mention how often they happen????? In later chapters you get stopped 10-12 times and each time you need to pass 3 levels!!! And sometimes it’ll stop you after almost nothing has happened! One time I just got badly flirted with by Dan! Another time all I’d gotten to do was have Jessy tell me she was going on a walk and she showed me pics I couldn’t even see because I didn’t pay for the multimedia pack! And like the multimedia pack before you finish the game is 13 dollars. After you finish, it’s 4. But like, just charge 4 dollars for the game and ditch the minigame except for when someone is actually helping Jake hack!!! Because it’s stupid for me to have to ask characters to describe literal clues to me because I didn’t buy the pack. It’s even stupider that a phone call I got ended up being a video I couldn’t even rewatch because the video of the thing I’d already seen is behind a paywall. Because I like the story! I like the charact

I hate the mini games

I LOVE this game but….

Ok, I love this game, I love this story and characters but…. THE MINIGAMES OMG They are so annoying. There is no reason as to why they should be so difficult. I just want to enjoy the story but I can’t get past the minigames! I wish there was some way to skip them but there isn’t. Maybe remove them from the premium version? Or add a way to buy a skip? Or just don’t make them so difficult. They’re minigames, not ACTUAL games.

Love it! But the mini game……

Ok so I never EVER write reviews. But I felt the need to write one for this game. This murder mystery game is awesome. The storyline is intriguing and put together well and I could just play this game for hours. The only problem is the mini game. The mini game itself is fun, but as you get further into the story, you read less story and play more mini game. Sometimes the mini game is too complicated and it takes me at least a day to finish it. Then I only get to read two minutes of the story. Besides that it’s great, just wish the mini game wasn’t so hard, and I don’t have to play it as frequently

Ridiculously stupid puzzle mechanic

Story is okay, sort of like Netflix teen horror movie quality, it’s enough to make you wanna go through it. However, the puzzles are enough to make you want to stop. If you don’t eat, sleep and breath “Match 3”, you’re gonna wanna delete the app very quickly. You will spend more time playing a really mediocre Match 3 game with eating and drinking noises as sound effects (I played on mute after a while) than you will engaging with the story itself. This is essentially a Match 3 game with story breaks.

I enjoy these type of games

The story seems solid. However, I have given it a few chances, and I am really struggling with the mini game. As someone who is not very good at a match 3 game to begin with, this game seems way harder then most. I feel set up for failure, in a cash grab scheme. I have been able to get far enough to be invested, however, I do not know how I will ever finish the story. I just do not have the cash flow to get through it at a responsible pace. Also because of my lack of ability and funds, I often forget where I left off in the story. My ability to answer some dialogue correctly is limited. Especially since I am unable to go back and read the whole chat history. Yes, even if I do answer incorrectly, the game will help me out so I can move forward. But that also takes away from the fun of the game. TLDR, I am too stupid and poor to continue a pretty good story. Thanks Everybyte

Some mini games impossible

jketnerofficial on

It’s super frustrating to get to an exciting part in the story only to get stuck for days trying to complete 3 mini games. Fix the RNG and make them a little easier. I’m only on the second phase of the story. The fact that the games are this hard makes me want to remove the game from my phone.
