Eat the Rainbow Food Journal Reviews

Easy to use

NeamieD on

I download this app to record my intake of fruit, veg, herbs, spices etc to see where I stood in the 30 a week recommendation after reading Tim Spector’s book Food for Life. It’s dead easy to record your intake & there is a daily as well as weekly view. Simple & colour coded which helps (and is kind of the point as well in terms of the food). Future enhancements maybe to allow more individual goal setting.

Stupidest app ever created

This app is useless.

Simple and Effective

This app is easy to use and does a nice job tracking the plant foods you are eating. Two suggestions for upcoming enhancements would be to: (1) add functionality that allows you to copy your selections from a specific date and use for to another. Many days I’m eating the same meals and it would save time to be able to copy the previous day rather than having to search and select each item again. (2) add a ‘delete all’ button to the search bar. Having to hit the backspace button for each character is tedious so it would be great to clear out the search field with one button.

Definitely motivates me to eat more vegetables

I find myself perusing the produce section for items to fill out my rainbow. 🌈 Thanks!

Good but missing something

I do like the app, makes it easier to track how many unique fibers I’ve eaten this week. I just wish I could see a list of the unique things I eat per week, so I don’t need to check day by day to see what I have yet to eat.

Fun!

Increasing your fruit and veg intake is one of the best things you can do for your health. I really like this app because it allows me to track my fruit, veggie, and nut consumption to see where I could eat more in a particular color on a given day or over time, and focus on increasing counts of unique foods within the colors. I *love* that it’s not weight loss/calorie count focused - increased diversity and intake of fruits and veggies is a much better goal, with less risk of a disordered relationship with food.

Only nutrition app I will ever use

I am so glad they finally updated this app! I love the simplicity. It’s user friendly and motivating. As someone who cares about my health but isn’t trying to count calories, lose weight or follow any specific “diet” it is wonderful to just have a way to motivate myself to add a little more nutrition without feeling like it need to cut out a bunch of other things.

Unique - great visualization tool

I also love how they don’t force you to create an account. You can if you want to. It’s all very chill. Not a lot of text, not needed. The list of foods for each color is a great way of expanding beyond my usual foods, as in “hmm, what foods can I eat to check off the red box?” It’s great. Simple, but with great effect.

Perfectly Simple!

I was looking for a SIMPLE app to track my plant intake after reading Fiber Fueled and setting a goal to eat 30 unique plants per week. Most apps were way too complicated for this purpose. This one is perfect! I love the color coding/rainbow visuals and the extensive plant list. Perfect, simple way to shoot for getting more plants into your diet and health into your life!

Not fond of the new update 😔

Ellenor on

I used to love this app (with the exception of having to enter in each item manually, especially if it was under the same color). It really motivated me to eat a variety of colors every single day (and noticed the correlation between eating the rainbow and my mood). It would even motivate me to make a different choice if there was a color missing towards the end of the day. For example, if I hadn’t eaten anything orange, I would reach for something that could help me complete that category. Well, the update allows to check more than one item off at the same time (kudos to that change). However, now the colors I’ve eaten are MUTED and look the same as the ones I haven’t. Not so motivating anymore 👎🏽.
