Published by: Via Transportation

Description

Edmonton On Demand Transit service is available 7 days a week to connect select areas of the city that don’t have a regular bus route to Edmonton’s transit network. This service is operated on behalf of the City of Edmonton by PWTransit Canada in partnership with Via Transportation.
What does on-demand mean?
It means you can get a ride when you need it. No more bus schedules and shorter wait times.
How does Edmonton On Demand Transit work?
You can book a ride on an accessible shuttle bus by using this app on a smartphone, visiting the website edmonton.ca/OnDemandTransit or calling 780-496-2400.
How do I get started?
Start by downloading the Edmonton On Demand Transit app, then create an easy account using only your name, phone number and email address. Confirm your location and input your destination to see the ride options. Then, book your ride and track it in real time. If you are calling in, provide the same information to the representative who will give you step by step instructions.
Who is driving the buses?

How long will I wait?
It depends on your trip and the time of day – but wait times will be less than 30 minutes in peak times and 60 minutes in off peak times. An accurate estimate of your wait time will be provided before you book your trip. You will be able to track the vehicle location in real-time using the Edmonton On Demand Transit app.
What else is helpful to know?
If you use a wheelchair or other mobility device, have a child stroller or need access to a built-in child safety seat, it’s important to put that in your Edmonton On Demand Transit booking or mention that to the phone representative. That way, we can ensure a spot is available for you.
Why are you offering this new service?
To provide connection to the regular Edmonton transit network from areas where flexible On Demand Transit is a better fit than big bus service.

Edmonton On Demand Transit Reviews

Extremely unreliable

We booked an on demand and the driver was just standing not moving after we called the customer service representative, they said that it might have some glitch. After some time we saw the bus driver go right past our stop. The on demand buses are completely unreliable.

Bus don’t even work it’s always “full” mfs get paid to sit on their asses doing nothing

Not enough busses

Most of the time the app says they have all their seats filled and I end up waiting for at least an hour a simple solution is to hire more drivers.

TERRIBLE

Lord of plebs on

Incredibly poorly designed, frequently just flat out doesn’t work. Occasionally I will book a bus, only for the app to not show me the bus, making it impossible to cancel or see when it’s coming. I also rely on the app to get to and from school and I can seldom get a bus even when its not peak hours. Hope the city ditches this.

Poorly implemented program, app is designed even worse

I have to allocate an additional 30 minutes to my commute to accommodate for the inevitable delays of the on demand buses arrival time. I have been using this program since its launch, and 90% of the busses I have requested have been at least 15 minutes late to picking me up. Drivers often take long breaks, unaccounted for in the app as it'll often show me that my bus is arriving in 5 minutes for 20 straight minutes. You can't even cancel at this point, as any cancellations after the 10-minute point are penalized, despite the arrival time consistently being unreliable. They removed the one good feature of the app, the ability to see the time your bus will arrive at your destination before you've boarded it. It only gives you this information when first booking and after you've boarded the bus, to which point you're often shown an arrival time of over 30 minutes past what the app promised you. At the very least, please re-instate this feature, as it is endlessly frustrating to have no ETA while waiting for the bus. The app is often non-functional alongside this, forgetting you've booked a bus entirely and showing you the default screen when you are attempting to access important booking information. It is honestly laughable that the app has somehow gotten worse far after it's launch, despite already being greatly flawed.

Thank you

TELL ME WHY I HAVE TO WAIT OVER AN HOUR RATHER THAN UAVING A BUS STRAIGHT HOME HOW BOOKED AND BUSY DO YOU MFS HAVE TO BE TO NOT YAVE A SINGULAR RIDE ON A THURSDAY AFTERNOON?????????? GET OUT!!!!!!!

Convenient, not always reliable

Em239 on

The service is very convenient the only complaint I have had is that many times my bus has been rerouted back to a neighborhood it had left to pickup other people, adding 10-15mins onto the route. The buses should be picking up people along the existing route NOT backtracking. It makes the system unreliable for timing to get to work or appointments.

Just get actual busses

takeurappdownplease on

You’re never anywhere are you? I have to arrive a specific time if I want to make it home, to work or anywhere actually because if not it’ll either say “not in service”, “high demand” or just be late. When I book for a bus, it has to be an a HOUR in advance because bus drivers will either be at home or be at town centre for far too long. I understand breaks, but if that’s your excuse do not book me that bus because its gonna say 10 mins then take another 20. (Or worse I’ll book a bus that says 10 mins away and then 5 seconds later it says it’s here, it LEAVES before I have the time to get there.) At this point it’s useless just have actual busses if it’s gonna take that long and make service this bad. Another thing is that you can only go to one place!! I can’t even go to west edmonton mall I would have to take the on demand bus from my house to the transit centre closest to me. edit: so you’re telling me that its been THIS LONG and nothing has changed? Why do you have to be at town centre for 10 minutes when you have other passengers waiting to be picked up?
