Description

Elytra is a privacy focused RSS Feed reader.

Elytra is the first Feed Reader on iOS & macOS to bring native text & image rendering to the Article Reader. It’s fully featured, customizable and ever evolving.

An active subscription is required to use the app (14-days free trial)

PRIVATE: Your account is automatically setup and is completely private. No passwords to remember. Elytra does not collect any personal information from you.

PRIVACY: Elytra strips out all tracking scripts and tracking pixels from articles to ensure your reading habits are always kept private.

MODERN FEED FORMATS: Elytra supports both XML and JSON feed formats.

PUSH NOTIFICATIONS: Get real-time updates from your favorite blogs which support the WebSub protocol.

LOCAL NOTIFICATIONS: Get near real-time updates from blogs which do not support push notifications.

LOCAL BOOKMARKS: All your bookmarks are locally available to read and refer even when you’re offline.

NATIVE RENDERING: Elytra renders articles using native features of iOS to bring inclusive features like Dynamic Type, Voice Over for Accessibility and reduce usage of tracking scripts.

IMAGE LOADING: Elytra provides various image loading options so you can save on mobile bandwidth and load images you deem necessary.

SYNC: Elytra supports cross-device sync using its API. Access your feeds on your iOS Devices, Mac devices as well as in the browser.

SEARCH: Search for a feed, then an article and then snippets within the article. Elytra is the first RSS Reader to support search within articles.

APPEARANCE: Elytra supports both Light and Dark themes. You can choose between various Serif and Sans-Serif fonts or even custom fonts you have installed on your device.

LINKED HEADERS: When the Article Author goes through the trouble of linking headers with IDs, it only makes sense that Elytra enables you to share direct sections with your friends & family.

MUTE FILTERS: Clean up your feeds from unwanted topics, spoilers, and noise.

WIDGETS: Elytra supports four unique widgets across all platforms to bring your favourite feeds and updates to your homescreen.

Not Private

wraithequestrain on

They’ve mentioned “private” and “privacy” so many times in the app description, and yet the app collects data according to the privacy label. That all one needs to know about how well this app will work.

Can’t use. Stole my money.

This app has not worked since the day after I downloaded it. How can you keep updating the app and not fix the crashing and bugs

Poor developer but great design

Rivera2475 on

The dev is awful for shipping and then charging for an app that has so much bugs. I would not even advise you try your luck to see if the app would work for you, instead take a look at reeder as they are much more polished.

Great idea….

but needs work. Running the latest app I had a hard time creating an account like noted in prior reviews. I had to force close the app multiple times and somehow was able to finally get logged in. Added 1st rss feed that I use daily in my other reader and this app just did circles like it was thinking and got stuck. I force closed the app again. Eventually was able to add one feed and the generated thumbnails looked all blurry. App deleted.

Can’t even get past the login

brainspin on

Subscribed but loops creating a private id or using an apple id, then asks to subscribe again. Closing or restoring purchase or anything goes back to the start and repeat. Can’t get past it and not able to use the app.

Love this app

USA36 on

Great RSS app easy to use and its getting update from developer regularly. It is also affordable too. Try it and you will love it same as i do.

Very Buggy Release

khushmeeet on

Elytra crashed three times, on first use. Application was slow and laggy, and UX was not efficient.

Add feed URL

PM :) :) on

I can't even add a feed via URL. Hitting paste into the input field never actually puts data into the field.

Buggy, feature incomplete, and a total mess.

Netman_on_the_web on

All hope provided by the very promising and good looking interface is quickly dashed by a host of bugs and a lack of important features. Most articles are unable to be read natively in the app, requiring a constant shuffling between Elytra and Safari - a concern which is not present on better RSS readers. The lack of any option to automatically open Safari with reader view enabled forces a whopping three button presses to be able to view an article in as close to plain-text as Elytra can get. Other RSS readers natively and automatically are able to format these articles in not even a single button press - they are able to display them upon opening the selected article. It is a huge disappointment in a particularly well-trodden feature set of RSS readers. Furthermore, of the limited settings offered by Elytra, remarkably little of them seem to work at all. As in, changing these settings throw up SSL error messages, crash the app to springboard, or simply have no effect when changed. It took me a remarkably long time to even buy the app - a steep asking price of $34 for a lifetime purchase (which is, for some reason, listed in the app as only being a subscription valid until 2026). If it weren’t already clear, it is a purchase I deeply regret. I will be exploring options for a refund, and I encourage anyone interested after the admittedly generous trial period to divert your attention to readers like News Explorer - a more feature complete, robust, and equally good looking option that is priced appropriately for an app on the App Store.

Extremely buggy app

chadalterrible on

Some advice- spend a few weeks in TestFlight to iron out all the bugs because absolutely nothing works in this app. Can’t add a feed. UI sometimes does not load without restarting the app. UI elements sometimes displaced. Recommended tab doesn’t show recommendations. Can’t search rss links. And it’s insulting to ask for a subscription when this app is so broken.
