Any update on this? It’s been over a year and the region filtering still doesn’t work. The Korean version of the app allows filtering by region, and it works. But not the English version. Please please fix.
This is pretty useless to me because when I get an emergency alert in Korean for my city, ideally I would open this app and see the translated message. But despite setting the geographic region correctly, the app shows me ALL emergency alerts in the whole of Korea. It’s nearly impossible to identify the ones I want.
What’s the use?
The automatic translations from korean to English are horrendous. The app is useless if all it’s feeding me is a string of indecipherable English nonsense.
Very poor and inaccurate translations
The whole point is supposed to be to provide non-Korean speakers with reliable information, but the auto-generated translations are so bad, they’re laughable. At times incomprehensible. You’re much better off taking a screenshot of the original Korean emergency alert and running it through google translate. It’s an extra step, but you have a better chance of actually getting a clear understanding of what it says.
Great Help
This is really helpful for ex-pats who don’t understand what their phone is saying when you get an alarm (which by the way you can turn off so it doesn’t wake you up at three in the morning to tell you there was a 3.1 earthquake 15 minutes ago). It also has a way to call 911 and different emergency sites and the embassy.
A little buggy, but so badly needed
Four stars because this is a sorely needed service. Minus one star because there is a notification badge on my home screen for this app and there is no indication in the app itself what it means or what I can do to clear it out. Hopefully future versions will iron out the kinks.
Finally a translation!
This app is now very useful. Those annoying (scary) emergency alerts from the government are translated in English.
FYI: South Korea Emergency App
No one knows this app exists. Why? Perhaps due to the lack of marketing. But, at least the app should mention Korea somewhere in the title or description.
