Description

Jazz Saxophone Etudes for Alto Saxophone, Volume 1 features twelve melodic etudes for the advancing jazz saxophonist. These etudes feature a wide variety of tempos, ranging from a ballad (66 BPM) through medium swing tempos (126 - 168 BPM), all the way up to fast bebop tempos ( from 184 BPM through 264 BPM). Each etude demonstrates a melodic approach to soloing with authentic jazz vocabulary. The etudes are catchy, fun to play, and written idiomatically for the saxophone.
The etudes are based on familiar chord progressions, including the blues, rhythm changes, and a variety of common “standard” 32-bar songs.

Greg’s Hip Licks app is a must buy for every saxophonist wanting to improve their jazz playing and vocabulary. I play along with this app multiple times a day and have found an endless amount of practice options. This app has so many features it’s hard to believe how low the cost is. I can loop any specific lick I’m working on, slow down and speed up the tempo or just play through all of the licks from that specific section. I can also choose whether I want to play with just the rhythm section, trade with Greg or play unison with him the entire time. Currently, my favorite way to practice with this app is setting the backing to trading with Greg. I play the original lick with Greg and then improvise my own lick. I have never felt this confident improvising. I love having a digital copy of Greg’s Hip Licks right on my phone and iPad. I have never had this much fun practicing! Greg Fishman’s Hip Licks has all of the answers you’ve been looking for!
