EyeLoveBirds Reviews

Limited Unless You Pay

lucadlp99 on

They only give you access to check 50 common birds…. you have to pay obscene amounts for small regional packs

Works perfectly

Works exactly like you want as a journal to help identify and keep track of bird sightings. Easy to buy and download packs for different locations, and really fun to track.

Great App for Beginners!

Firefawnakl on

United States

This app is great for beginners. My husband and I both just got into birding (a serious leg injury has had me down from our usual backpacking and climbing activities, so we needed something new outside while I heal up) and this has been a great app for that! It has nice pictures (though could use more) and the songs are helpful. The descriptions give you some fun little facts as well. Expect to spend between $5 and $20 on in-app list purchases as you cannot add to your bird list without the bird being on a list you have. This to me was a very reasonable price. The app only comes with about 50 or so free birds to track so be aware you’ll need to purchase the whole US list or your individual state list (if in the US for example) if you want access to track a bird. They have some free lists for Canada though which is cool. Also cool is it looks like they may be starting to make national park lists! They already have one for Yosemite. However, please do not think this app will allow you to input features of a bird you see to identify it easily within the app. It will not. Like most things it is a good tool to help, but we usually use google search for features, narrow it down, then look for the type of bird in the apps search engine. For example… type in “stilt” or “ibis” and all the ones in app in your purchased lists will pop up to assist. Feedback for developers: We found a missing and common bird from the lists that we couldn’t properly track: the domestic goose. Please get that added in as it is different from the other geese listed in the lists. A few additional pictures for each bird would be excellent additions. While there are usually 2-3 for each, having one of a male, female, and juvenile from different angles would make this a next level app. Peregrine falcons for example look way different as adults than they do from their juvenile forms and while the app has basic head shots, they weren’t very comprehension so I had to go to the internet for those. Full wing / fight shots would also help. Please also stop having it ask to enable push notifications. That gets super irritating after the fourth time I open it. It doesn’t ask again while still open, but once closed and reopened it doesn’t remember the previous response. Bottom Line: Great app and well worth the purchase for new birders. Not comprehensive enough for pros or those birding a long time though. But for probably 75% of birders it rocks and makes searching easy.

What am I doing wrong!?! Really disappointed

Love from Dawn on

I wanted an app so that I could find the names of all the birds I see in my backyard and at the state parks…. This app had pretty great ratings so I paid the $2.99 for the Florida birds…. Well over 2/3 of the birds of Florida have no photos and there isn’t a search option based on description… if I k ew the names of the birds I wouldn’t need/want this app.

Decent, Needs Improvement

ohmycmonbruh on

I’ve paid for the birds of the US and yet it doesn’t have the famous song of the white-throated sparrow or the characteristic screech of a Red Tailed Hawk. I’d update my review to more stars if they could manage to improve some of these basic things. (Also more photos would be nice, like the hawk in flight - there’s plenty of commercial use images online).

Disappointing

Good app to kill a beginner’s joy of birdwatching. Lots of useful information on each species, but listing species alphabetically by common name makes finding a match to the bird in view practically impossible. It needs some organizing principle and an introductory ‘how to use this app’.

Greatest Bird App!

Scuba Dooba on

United States

I absolutely love this app. You get a fair amount of bird identifications to start with and you can choose to purchase additional packages for the areas and types of birds your interested in. The identifications, pictures and bird calls/songs are well done without being over done. Best of all the additional packages are fairly priced, they don’t price gouge you for additional packages. I couldn’t recommend this app enough!

Good Birds - Bad Database

Dogbutt Bob on

United States

You would expect to be able to find a bird by its color, or if you know it’s a duck to be able to search ducks. Unless you already know the complete name of a bird, it is virtually impossible to find what you are looking for. Once you search through the thumbnail pics and find your bird, the data is good.

Great app but having an issue

Wonderful app. I had problems with downloading lists, but enabling background updates fixed this.

Good Amount of Information

Megzter on

United States

I really like the way the species profiles are set up and that I can see multiple pictures and hear their songs and calls. It’s exactly what I was looking for. However, I would like the ability to filter the bird list by season and bird characteristics to help me ID birds more quickly.
