Comments from a current officer:
"In 2006, I decided to change careers and enter the law enforcement field. I was 29 years old, 5'8", 260 lbs, and unable to complete the State Police PFT. I purchased your FBI Academy / PFT Prep Workout and ritualistically followed it 6 days a week for over six months. When I applied and tested for the State Police in Feb 2007, I received superior marks on all levels, and an excellent in the 1.5 mile run. I entered academy at 31 years old and 185 lbs and excelled though academy. So, thank you for everything you do for today's modern warrior."

Overtraining and Stress Fracture

smccdrummer on

I am previously a NSCA certified personal trainer, and experienced overtraining, pulled hamstrings, and a “severe stress fracture” in the ‘ring finger’ toe of my right foot. After just two weeks of trying to follow the plan, I knew it was at a starting point that most people wouldn’t be able to accomplish without negative impact. Despite pain, which I attributed to my body acclimating to the intense training, I continued to train. I even scaled back some of the workouts. I changed my 1.5 pace to the point equivalent of earning a zero instead of a one… and still I ended up with a stress fracture. Today is my first day back to be allowed to jog after 9 weeks in a boot and on a knee scooter. I’ve been in PT for 3 weeks now. That’s 12 weeks since I last was running regularly. If you wish to have setbacks, download the app, and follow it to the ‘T’… and don’t bother emailing Stew. I tried twice and he didn’t respond.

Not for beginners

This app requires you to be very fit from the start. If you’re like me and require a bit more beginner friendly training, this app is not for you.

Beware: No Place to Start

All 4-5 star reviews smells fishy because it is. I’ve prepared for multiple fitness tests in my career and have a basic understanding of how fitness works—I’m in decent shape. I read the FBI guide to training for the PFT carefully, but after trying to craft a workout schedule on what they suggest, I figured I could spend ten dollars for someone to detail out a training regimen. Mistake. The workouts provided are not sustainable and will lead to injuries if you’re not already at an incredibly high level of fitness. I don’t know who needs this. Anyone who can keep up with such a regimen will already be prepared for the test—and kudos! In that case, this app is great for maintaining that level of fitness! Hence the three stars. But if you’re looking for something to help you build up to passing, this isn’t it. Follow the FBI’s free manual. It might take more work to create a regimen, but it is sustainable for the long term. You have a year after Phase II to complete the PFT. Don’t try to kill yourself with this program. It will lead to discouragement and injury. Progress takes time.

This app helped me pass the FBI fit test, simple as that. All you need to do is get up early and do what this app tells you to do. I liked the progression and variety of the workouts. Also, if you’re ever in the gym and can’t think of what you want to do, turn on the app and go through the workout of your choice. Can’t go wrong.

I passed on my first try thanks to this app

This is worth the money. If you are really serious about passing the test then you need to get this app and follow the program. If you follow it to the letter and don’t slack off you WILL see results. Before I got the app, I did my first practice test and scored a 4. I did this app’s entire program once through and when I did my second practice test I scored a 16. I then did the entire program again from the beginning and when I did my third practice test I scored a 23. I ran through several more practice tests before the real thing and consistently scored 23-24. On the actual test I scored a 23. Yay! I’m now going through this app’s program a third time in order to keep in shape and achieve a higher score on my pre-Academy test. Definitely some of the best money I ever spent!

Good app, but needs a few tweaks

Thank you David for a great training tool. It has lots of internal features, including videos of exercises that come in acronyms. It is nice to get the additional tips and trips for the PFT as well. Instructions are simple and the workouts are challenging. I’ve asked the developer to include an audible alert for the countdown timers, and to create a notes area. This would make the app an all-in-one show stopper. Do the training outlined in the program, and results will show. Also, read the disclaimer. It is not a beginner’s workout program, but there’s an area for that, called the 45 day beginner eBook. Also, if you’re time limited, I’ve found that it’s sometimes easier to split the workouts. Sweat+Effort=Results. Get to it!

Simple and effective.
