Phantom devices concern me

Brenx110 on

iPhone 13 iOS 17.5.1 Using the free version I was worried to see some unexpected devices under My Devices in Settings->Bluetooth: iPhone iPad Accessory These were all status Connected, despite the fact that I’d not accepted any pairing requests. The phone uses FaceID and nobody else could have accepted any requests. I worked through the list of apps with Bluetooth access and using a process of elimination realised that this app is creating these phantom paired devices when the app is running. If I disable Bluetooth access for just this app under privacy & security the problem doesn’t occur and same if the app isn’t running. There are also a number of non-existent “unknown” devices appearing in the constantly re-sorted list of found devices (yes I’m sure it doesn’t do that in paid mode) with the distance down to as little as 3 feet, but no matter which way ya go you never get any closer. Because they don’t exist! Because I did the test in the middle of a park! So I would imagine this is a deliberate tactic to promote IAPs but I think it’s a step too far to be included in the App Store. I really thought for a while that I was getting hacked and that is a concern for business and personal privacy reasons.

Why should I pay for something I already own?

I would of found my Apple Pencil, if it hadn’t of asked me to pay for something I already own. I spent almost 100 pounds on the pencil, why should I spend more to find it?
