Wildfires are becoming bigger, more intense, more destructive, and more frequent. We want to make the world a safer place, so we put the power of 21st Century wildfire detection in the palm of your hand.
• We use MODIS and VIIRS satellites to spot, map, and track blazing wildfires around the world.
• We use two NRCAN layers to visualize detected fire and fire perimeters across Canada.
• Control the sensitivity of MODIS and VIIRS blazing fire detection filters yourself.
• We update blazing fire detection around the world twice a day to keep you aware and safe.
• Check detections from previous months – handy for planning your next wilderness hike or canoe trip.
• Not sure you have the latest detections in app? You can update the detections on demand.
• Worried about friends, family, or property in a remote location? Use the search feature to check for blazing fires.
• Worried about your campsite? Use our GPS tool, see your position and spot any blazing fires nearby.
• Need to raise the alarm? Share blazing fire detections on social media, text message, or email.
• Want to report a fire? We show you the location of each blazing fire detection and NRCAN perimeter.
I’m in BC. Midst of all the fires and it tells me there’s no data for today.
Come on!
Terribly inconsistent. User will refer to this when fire threatens their property and it doesn’t load fires most of the time. A 200000 hectare fire is non existent in this app.
Doesn’t show all reported fires
A quick cross check with the Ontario Provincial Forest Fire website shows that there are fires happening that FireFringe doesn’t display, even after adjusting the sensitivity filter.
Also, while I understand that the satellites only detect hot spots regardless of source it would be useful to label some of these when they are known to be industrial and not actual forest fires. The steel mills in Hamilton and the nickel mines in Sudbury seem to be in the map but clearly aren’t fires to concerned about.
Ok App but Needs Work
Feedback.. I’m not sure why you didn’t include “fire smoke “ Canadian layer ..that would be one of the most used feature of this app that regular users would benefit from …. See fire smoke.ca for example
Also getting lots of error messages “network problems” from the app and website
Searching for Banff brought me back to my location a couple times after “touching Banff” 3rd try it took me to Banff
