The Evolution of the Flashcard — FlashGreek: Mounce Edition!
From the makers of PαrsεGrεεk & FlαshGrεεk Pro — Multimedia Flashcards for learning New Testament Greek, designed to be compatible with William Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek (2010).
The flashcards are keyed to the chapters of the textbook and include the following:
- image/mnemonics
- audio for both sides of the card (Erasmian pronunciation)
- a contextual example for all forms
Tailor quizzes to your needs, including as much or as little of the extra content as you want. Or sit back and study in slideshow mode ! Either way, you'll be acing those vocab tests in no time.
BEFORE YOU BUY - consider whether you need flashcards beyond your first year of Greek. If so, then we recommend purchasing FlashGreek Pro, as it it contains ALL words in the Greek New Testament AND is keyed to Mounce's intro grammar. FlashGreek Pro allows you also to study by frequency or root, and to drill yourself on Principal Parts too.
This app appears to work great so far from my experience. I must admit I was a bit disappointed that the app was $5.99 and then 10 minutes into using the app I found out it was barely usable without also paying $2.99 for the pro version. It’s not that much money ofc, but it still felt a bit dishonest…
Review of FlashGreek
Awesome app!
😎
Lags
Great, but there a bugs when adjusting the range. There are so many options that it lags and you have to close the app.
Legit resource!
Dude, if your working through Biblical Greek, you need this app or something similar for sure!
Good not Great
The main bonus with this app is that it’s an app and available anywhere you take your phone. I use it exclusively to memorize vocabulary words from Bill Mounce’s 4th edition New Testament Greek. I find it mildly annoying that the definition on the app don’t always mirror the definitions found on the back of his flash cards or in the book. Sometimes word definitions are added or omitted, which is frustrating when you are trying to memorize precise definitions for a test. The other issue I found is that the words aren’t always pronounced accurately. For instance, when the app says Pneuma, which is the greek word for spirit, it does not pronounce the P. Mounce clearly states there are no silent letters in Greek. This makes me question other pronunciations, so I cant proceed with as much confidence as I should when using the app. So I use it, but only when the flash cards are not available.
Amazing app!
So user-friendly and helpful it’s ridiculous! Definitely helps make Greek less …Greek.
Very Helpful!
This App has been a great blessing to use as a study tool. The options of what to use or not..sound, pictures, repeat missed cards.
Good app missing some features
Great app, but there a couple things that I really would like to see a couple of features: (1) the ability to break up larger sets of words into smaller adjustable subsets for memory work. I like to memorise new words in groups of 10 (my brain is too old to start with the 20 or 30 word sets that are generated by the typical chapter) and (2) the ability to flip back to see the Greek word once I have flipped to see the English gloss. Currently you can’t flip back and forth and before selecting correct/incorrect. I’m a new user, so if I have somehow missed this functionality please correct me. The ability to control set size (other than when using the word frequency panel to filter down, which I find kludgey) would be huge for me.
Useful app, needs a fix.
This app has been quite useful for me, definitely worth the buy. The only problem I hope the author will address is that certain flash cards will not turn over from Greek to English when I hit “flip”. I hope you will fix this.
Good for learning Greek, App could be better
This app has helped me a lot so far in my Greek class, however I feel like the quality of the app aesthetically and interface-wise could be better considering it’s an app you have to purchase. Looks a little thrown together. Interface is a little clunky and confusing.
A few features that I think would be great:
- A button to flip between the Greek word and English word after you have pressed flip. Right now the only options are to press next, correct, or wrong.
- Save previous settings. Not that big of a deal, but I like to take out the images, examples, and auto-play recordings when learning the words. Wish it would remember my settings so didn’t have to change those every single time.
