Challenges: Put your skills to the test with the challenges Fluent Numerals offers for both listening and speaking. In listening challenges, a speech synthesizer says a number or a series of digits and your goal is to enter the correct numbers using the keypad. In speaking challenges, your goal is to pronounce the number you see on the screen (either as the entire number or separate digits) well enough so that a speech recognizer for the language you selected will understand you. Just hold down the record button and speak into the mic. And unlike traditional "listen and repeat" lessons, Fluent Numerals gives you immediate feedback on your performance.
Fluent Numerals is free to try and is initially limited to numbers of up to 3 digits using digits 1-5. If you find that Fluent Numerals helps you become more fluent with numerals, you can unlock the full version with an in-app purchase to access the entire range of numbers the app offers.
I was looking for a way to revise numbers in Japanese and this is the only app I found.
Despite the simplicity in the design, the app works fine and reaches its goals. You can train your listening skills AND your speaking skills as it has a voice recognition mode.
features the app lacks :
- a « show the answer » button whenever you can’t find the right answer
- in Japanese, there are 2 ways of counting (kun yomi and on yomi), and only one is present
- in Japanese, there exists particles for the type of objects you want to numerate (ex : 台、同、回、冊). It would be very interesting to implement them (ex : it shows 11 apples and you have to say « eleven + small objects particle + apple »)
