FluentU: Learn Language Videos

The videos are not playing and shows an error message. This is even when i am a paying subscriber.

The videos are of low quality with a huge amount of contents from latino America instead of Spain Spanish. Subtitles are wrong. Videos are lousy, uninteresting with a huge amount about children in almost all of the videos. Basically from YouTube source, but yet YouTube has a more varied selection than them. Accents are all Latino America. Video speed cannot be adjust to faster can only be slower and it is only 0.75 or 0.5. way too slow. The audio of the quiz sections is using lousy AI generated. Sounds so artificial, weird. Totally a waste of money.

After trying, and paying for multiple apps, I think this is probably the best app. Worth the money.

The concept of this app is great. You watch clips of videos with subtitles that you can loop to repeat individually and after that, there are quizzes for it to reinforce learning. But both of the quality and quantity of the videos are not there. Quantity is pretty small, so you do not have much choices, especially the quality or rather the interestingness of the videos are not good either. Variety is small and limited. Sometimes the words chosen to be quiz are limited too, so you may not find the words you wanted to learn in the quiz, but this is a lesser problem compared to the variety, quality and quantity of video.

I like the sign of the app but is limited to portrait viewing only on iPad. Please update the app for those of us who use smart keyboards with our iPads. 🙏

Imagine an app with combined powers of Pimsleur, Memrise, Clozemaster and Lingopie.

im here trying to learn korean and then this app wants me to use a free trial and pay after 14 days. its ridiculous what if i dont want to start a free trial? its going to be so troublesome to cancel it. just include an “x” button or something. some people might not want a free trial. stop forcing.

The price is a bit expensive, but for me it is worth. I subscribed for 2 months, and I have learnt more than expected. I stopped the subscription because I finished the video lessons for the Chinese Mandarin course (from beginner to intermediate 1 level). If in the future, there are more video lessons for intermediate 2 or advanced level I would continue the subscription (if I am still learning Chinese by that time).

This app has been pretty helpful but I agree with prior reviews, it’s a tad expensive for what it is offering. I would like to complain about the 7 day trial scummy practice a lot of these subscription plans like to do but FluentU is egregious. I went back to the app to try out learning a different language and there was a one week trial on. I literally clicked continue with trial and my account was immediately charged. Turns out if you select the yearly subscription you’ll be automatically charged the entire $400 and forgo the trial altogether. I read the site and I thought that if you canceled the subscription before the expiry you will not be charged. Not true. I cancelled it beforehand and STILL got charged. You need to select the different option that was presented to you first in the trial screen in order for that to happen. They present both options as if you can choose which plan to go for after the trial. Nope. Total lie. If you’re offering a trial, how about not confusing the user first, huh? You present both options and turns out one of it is actually asking for a commitment. And to top it all of, the yearly subscription is automatically selected for you! BE CAREFUL. If you’re going for the trial, read carefully before you proceed!!! It’s a good app for learning but there are cons which I can’t recommend the app for. I say be careful because the “continue with trial” button will not change even with the yearly commitment option selected. They will take your money even if you cancel. BE CAREFUL AND READ EVERYTHING BEFORE CONTINUING!!!
