I’m really liking the app so far, however I have a question and I can’t get in contact with the developer. The only option is through the mail app, which I don’t use. Please provide an email.
My question is regarding the consumed feature. It seems like there should be an option to set up for a consumed item to be added to the shopping list, but I can’t find a way. There is a way to set up add to shopping list when the quantity falls below a certain number, and if you consumed your item, it fell below the minimum quantity so it should be added to your shopping list. Even if you go to consumed items, there is no option to add to to shopping list.
Expiration date not working
Every time I try entering an expiration date, the app keeps reverting my expiration date to the default of June 13, 2024.
Not joining X to contact support
This app is great and allows a lot of customizations. But a couple of things need to me fixed:
1. I tried avoiding writing a review so that I might be able to improve the rating I give after I hear from the writer/support. I could not find a way to contact support through the app so I went to the App Store. When attempting to contact support through the App Store I am taken to X (Twitter). I am NOT creating an x account to contact the writers. So a not so great review they get for now.
2. When I add an item to my list that I already have in stock, it lets me know. That’s great but when I by the item or stock the item, I want the app ask me if I want to replace the existing in stock item or if I want to add to the existing stock. Currently it just adds to. If it’s an item like lettuce, I might buy a fresh bunch weekly.
3. When I stock an item I just purchased, the app puts it in my Bar storage, alphabetically the first storage the app finds. If the item is an item that has previously been stored, it should put it in the previous storage. If it’s an item that is new to the app, it should either prompt me to choose a storage or put it in some sort of undefined storage so I can choose storage later.
4. In my kitchen-fridge storage, I have an open item that I can neither mark as consumed or throw. When I swipe right to left, the consume a product screen appears but save is grayed out. If I choose to throw the product, save is also grayed out. If I choose to edit the product and change the quality to zero, save grays out.
Perhaps the only food with Shortcuts integration
I want to thank you for making the shortcut integration.
I’d request you please add more options into this.
Like, adding a feature to select certain food items from a list. - there seems to be an option present, but it’s only returning list name and not items presents inside the list itself.
This is great feature for someone, like me, why is just providing the ingredients to ChatGPT app and its give me step by step instructions to check a simple breakfast.
Right now I am only able to send the entire list or soon to be expired. It would be great is there is a way to select the ingredients and upload to the ChatGPT app as input.
You guys are life saver to me. Saves me so much time. Helps me get started with different mix of smoothies and healthy breakfast and helps me lose weight.
Thank you for your work.
Just Gets Better
I started using FoodShiner a few months ago. I really liked it, and sent the largest tip, but still found a few things that bothered me plus some bugs in the Mac app. The developer was extremely friendly and responsive, and rather promptly fixed the issues with an update. You can’t ask for more, especially from an essentially free app.
This app is extremely flexible, allowing organization and display of data in various useful ways. The notifications are excellent. There’s nothing else out there that comes even close to FoodShiner. One competing app that looks kind of decent has apparently been abandoned by its developer according to user reviews.
About the only remaining change I’d like to see in FoodShiner is the ability to reorder the list of storages (Freezer, Fridge & Pantry).
I encourage people to try the app and send a tip to reward the developer’s excellent work.
Great food inventory app
I’ve been looking for an app that is intuitive and easy to use, to keep track of my freeze dried food inventory. This is that app. One of my favorite features is the ability to create custom locations and custom places within those locations. The only thing I would personally like to see added in a future revision would be the ability to add sub categories.
EDIT: with the addition of tags, a subcategory field isn’t necessary. Keep up the good work!
Fantasic app
This is a fantastic app for keeping track of food items in your pantry, freezer, fridge or whatever. I’ve been using it for about 6 months and I’ve had a great experience. Its got a slight learning curve, but its easy to catch on to. Its very customizable so you can make it work for any situation. And even though its geared towards food, you can actually use it to inventory anything. Just set up your own products and storage areas. You can even take your own pictures to set up your own products, food or not. Hope the developer doesn’t mind non-food use! I use it for my freezer and pantry and I highly recommend this app. The developer is highly responsive to email. He needs more US users, and no, I have no connection to the developer.

For a free app, there are a lot of great features
I just recently downloaded this app and I'm very impressed so far. I gave it 5 stars because as I said in the title, for a free app, there are a lot of great features. It also deserves a tip IMO as it's a very well built app.
That being said, it would be awesome if lists in the native Reminders app could be imported to the Shopping Lists in yours. I use Siri all the time for this.
Additionally it would be awesome to be able to bulk move all the items from the shopping list to storage.
Thanks for such a great app!
How To section???
I am not given an option to delete an item from inventory when we use it. I’ve looked online for help with no results. The barcode scanner worked sometimes but not on all items—even if I’d already scanned one of the same item previously. I’m not finding this very user friendly.

Barcode scanner works like a charm. Easy to use.
Update: The barcode scanner works very well. Definitely impressive. We'll be using this software to track all our pantry items. Thank you to the developer for responding and explaining the settings.
We have been looking for a way to track the food we have in our pantry. So often we forget what we have and buy more before using the old. Today is the first day of trying this app. So far so good. We'd love to see an option to use a remote barcode scanner. The app currently has you hold the item in front of your computer camera. Scanning would be much faster if we could use our handheld scanner. Anyway, pleased so far. Love that the information is stored on our computer and doesn't require loading on our phones.
