Forward is an innovative game in which you will progress through a procedurally-generated dungeon in the form of cards. Move your character from one card to another and keep going forward while avoiding attacking enemies. However be careful, each card will have specific effects making each move important and strategic.
Your goal is to clear the 8 levels of a dungeon, each level getting increasingly difficult. In order to succeed, you will have to choose which move to make, which item to pick and use your skills. Each choice is critical.
Take advantage of many items combinations and build the best character possible based on your goal and the cards you’ll come across.
Features:
- 100+ item cards to improve your characters
- 9 playable characters with unique skills and game mechanics
- 27 unique active competencies
- 3 game modes
As Forward is a rogue-like inspired game, the features you’ll be able to find are :
- Death ends the game
- Procedurally-generated dungeons
- Turn-based movements
- Resource management (health, armor, mana, gold etc)
- Many randomly drawn items
The game is based on the 2022 PC game Forward: Escape the Fold which was received very positively. Developed by Two Tiny Dice, its success prompted the developer to bring the game to mobile.

Forward FAQ
Is Forward free?
Yes, Forward is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Forward legit?
🤔 The Forward app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I hope there is more content planned. I think two ideas for other classes would be a shadow step type character that can leap over a card or another character that has a backstep, that can go back to a previous row.
Lovely game and awesome work!
could be great but lacking a bit
it did serve a purpose and was fun to unlock the characters and some challenges. but what’s annoying is that on the journey mode which has the potential to be so much fun. Zero explanation to what increasing and decreasing the values actually do in game. i’ve tried a mix of things and they are all impossible because not one thing makes sense. does increasing the quantity or the loot a good or bad thing? does increasing loot quality mean there’s less quality or more or rarity of items? does it mean i’ll find less or more lol.
hopefully they can add some explaining
Love it!
I don’t usually write reviews but a reasonable priced, thoughtfully designed, and really fun game without microtransactions is worth a great review! I really loved this game, and there’s a surprising amount of depth to the card system, a variety of characters, and lots to discover! I hope the developer releases additional content: I’d love to shell out a few more dollars for an expansion :)
Great Deck Builder
Clever mechanics and card/item synergies make for some interesting play. Each character requires different tactics, keeping it fresh. Successful runs take about 15 min, so good pickup-and-play.
Fun enough initially but pseudodifficult and frustrating
This game has a problem that many roguelikes share, which is that some of its “difficulty” arises from the statistical risk that it might generate a board which is impossible to beat even with perfect play.
At lower levels of difficulty this is acceptable because it’s reasonably rare, but in some of the game modes, and with some of the characters, particularly the extremely imbalanced/gimmicky ones, you’ll find yourself losing because of an impenetrable wall of damage that no amount of preparation can forestall. This is frustrating.
The counterpart to this is that the RNG sometimes produces games that are arbitrarily too easy, even at a higher difficulty setting. Victories achieved this way are unfulfilling. That feeling of unearned victory bleeds over into a suspicion that all of the victories were due to flukes.
The interplay of the various game item cards encourages a range of play styles and makes each character feel unique, which is nice. The corresponding downside to this, which I think others have pointed out, is that you are often at the mercy of the RNG and you will wind up often using one or two default strategies based on the first couple items you happen to get.
Overall, this game is not particularly difficult. I got to 100% completion on this game in about 3 weeks of casual play.
I like the game’s visual style, and it has a fun dungeon-crawl-throwback aesthetic.
Actually love it!! Worth the purchase.
It’s a low commitment game that was thought out quite well!! Been playing it for a number of weeks on and off. Again… very well thought. I like it. I do see there is likely going to be a cap here at some point. But it’s a loose cap, Unlike a full-blown campaign though with a clear end. Good play. Would certainly buy again and I recommend to friends. I have had no issues with gameplay or software bugs. And I note to developer—I really love the different challenges. I think it lends itself to different people’s game preferences.
Super Fun - Would Be Even Better With iCloud Syncing
This game is delightful; a small, easy-pickup way to crawl through some dungeons and off some baddies …
The art is great, it starts off pretty easy and walks you through how everything works, and then starts to get more interesting as you acquire more characters (with unique abilities) and start stacking cards that enhance your actions.
I’m really glad this has a nice format for iPad; it can be used in landscape mode (which I love) since I usually have my iPad with my Magic Keyboard.
If I had one request, it would be to enable “iCloud Syncing” between devices … I usually play this game on my iPad, but sometimes, when I’m out an about, I’ve wanted to play this on my iPhone and pick up where I left off — and that functionality doesn’t yet appear to be supported.
Beyond that — this game is a steal for only 2 bucks — get it!
Been playing for days, help.
If you’re a lover of Slay the Spire, Dawncaster, Inscryption, or MTG you’ll like this game. A few bugs need to be worked out (level skipping, blank screen) but the game itself is great and more than worth $1.99 I enjoyed unlocking the new characters, achievements, and challenges. Hopefully they drop some DLCs soon because it’s NOT ENOUGH.
Amazing!
Best card rogue-like on iOS!! Update: pretty sure this game has a Tony Todd Night of the Living Dead remake quote. Can I give this a hundred stars?
Waste
I beat classic and expert mode back to back and it felt like a waste of time. They put no effort into this cash grab. Just drag your card is the whole game.
