Description
The Galileo Green Lane initiative is run by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) in cooperation with the European Commission. It is compliant with the EC Communication C(2020) 1897 final, on the implementation of the Green Lane.
The Galileo Green Lane app monitors the traffic situation at TEN-T border crossings. It provides border officials and transporters visibility on the border situation, allowing them to see which borders are under higher load. Galileo Green Lane enables borders to meet the ‘Green Lane’ requirements, enabling the flow of traffic under 15 minutes.
The enhanced Galileo Green Lane app uses your device’s location to show the closest border crossings and other points of interest. It also collects location data to measure the traffic status at TEN-T border crossings. Location information is transmitted securely and anonymously to our servers only when you enter a TEN-T border crossing zone to provide statistical traffic data.
No information identifying the users (phone numbers, unique identifiers, emails, names, or addresses) is handled by the application or the service and all data handling is done in compliance with EU regulation on data privacy, specifically with regards to the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679.
The Galileo Green Lane application was developed by GMV for the EUSPA.
How does the app work?
To use the application, you just have to start it up. Give permissions if requested, and then you will be shown automatically the crossing times of the nearest border crossings and information of points of interest near your location. Once started, you can scroll the map and click on any element on the map or list to display further information.
The application provides the following functionality:
- Information about crossing times in border crossings and points of interest for the transport community
- Information about available services in gas stations and resting areas
- Messages from border officers notifying incidents or delays
- Simple route calculation considering delays at the borders
Who is it for?
Anybody can use the application, although it is specially aimed at professional transport drivers. Border officers have a companion application developed specifically for them.
Why use it?
If you have to travel across borders within Europe or from/to neighboring countries, the application gives you information about the expected delay at each border crossing so that you can plan your route better.
The application also works as a sensor to gather information about the time drivers take to cross borders, which contributes to improve the information available in the system and inform other drivers of potential issues in a particular border.
Protecting your privacy
The application needs to know your location in order to identify the closest border crossings and points of interest, calculate routes from your current location and measure the time required to cross a border.
The application will never ask you for any data that can serve to identify you, nor use location information beyond the border crossings’ vicinity (which will be handled anonymously) or provide any means to link the location information to a specific device.
We do not sell your data to any third party, nor will we ever show you advertisements or send you spam via email nor inside the application.
