On this most auspicious day of Śrī Gaurahari’s divine advent, we present to you the Gaudiya Kirtan app (beta).
We’re still at the beginning stages of this very large project. Version 1.0 is set to be released on Februrary 11, 2021. In the coming days and months, you can expect lots of regular updates with new features and improvements.
What you get on this first beta release:
700+ BHAJANS
You will find all the invaluable kirtans of our ācāryas like Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, Śrīla Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura, and Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī. The number of bhajans on the app will continue to increase.
LOTS OF AUDIO RECORDINGS
For many of the bhajans you come across, you’ll find a variety of authentic melodies of how to sing them. Some of these recordings we made specifically for this app and others we collected here and there from devotees.
[Disclaimer: the recordings currently on the app have not been properly mixed and mastered yet. We’ll gradually replace each recording with a better quality version as we finish them.]
FUZZY SEARCH
Whether you type “suda vakta” or “shood bakat”, you’ll still be able to find the song Śuddha-bhakata. You’ll have to try hard to type it wrong enough for the search not to find it. The results appear immediately as you begin typing.
SUGGEST NEW SONGS
Is there a song you want missing from the app? Well now you can request it! As long as it is an authorized song, and we can find it or you can provide it in its source language, we’ll be able to add it in.
You can email it to us at
[email protected]
MULTIPLE LANGUAGES
All the songs are available in Bengali, Hindi and English. Very soon we’ll add in Russian, Spanish, Oriya, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Panjabi, and other languages.
Coming later this month:
- Collections including over a dozen songbooks
- The ability to search for words within a song
- More options on the audio player
- Multiple recordings for individual bhajans
- Single verse view mode
Note: we're fixing the problem of all the v's appearing as b's, the missing hyphens in the songs, and improved ordering of search results.
---
It is our hope that this app will be a place that stimulates confidence in those who are hiding, too shy to come out and sing aloud while chiming kartālas; that entices those who are standing at a distance, looking on with curiosity, to participate; and that provides companionship for those who have embraced the life of kirtan.
