Gen Con FAQ
Is Gen Con free?
Yes, Gen Con is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Gen Con legit?
🤔 The Gen Con app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
This is a map of an event that is barely usable. You have to zoom in to see what is where, but you will not find anything without using the search function because the lag is strong, even on the most recent phones.
The event search defaults to showing you things that have already happened unless you filter them out. In what world would I ever want to see events that have already happened that I can’t go to?
There’s again no real way to find what you’re looking for unless you search.
To make it worse, if you try to go from events back to map, it glitches out and the only way to fix it is to hard restart the whole app. Have had to do this at least 10-20 times per day while at the con.
Overall, it’s one of the worst convention apps I’ve ever used.
This app does not work
If the app store is to be believed, this app was updated yesterday. I downloaded this update. Yet when I open the app I get nothing but an endless swirling star and no actual connection to any Gen Con information.
It does not even fit my iPad screen. Are there actual developers involved in this process?
I am not even asking for much. I would just like to have maps of the Convention Centers and a list of events. I don’t even have to have a way to contact my fellow attendees, which this app advertises, although that would be nice, or a way to see all my events, which would be the next basic level of functionality.
Gen Con has 70,000+ attendees. It’s a major event. WHY ON EARTH is there no money spent on an app in this day and age?!
I’d also like to know why the most recent review of this app was three years ago. Has no one opened this app since then??
Just hangs and never loads
The app is beginning to hang a lot and I can’t get in to look at anything at all. It’s likely a server issue but it’s making the app unusable currently.
It needs better search capabilities.
If you are attending one day, and that day is not thursday, good luck finding any of the events for the day. I spent 15 minutes scrolling on the page trying to get to Sunday events. After the 15 minutes, I was finally able to see the 11pm events for Thursday.
Needs a lot of work
The digital map was very helpful but the fact that you can’t just get digital event tickets is silly. Purchasing a ticket on the app, waiting 4hrs and in line to get a piece of paper with a barcode on it is just a waste.
Easy to grab event tix
Wanted some tickets while riding to gencon... searched them up, picked friend, double checked schedules, bought two tickets to event on existing account. Total time install to checked out, <5 minutes.
Needs work
The map function is not user-friendly, and I have to sign in every time I open the app. The latter is a mere inconvenience, but the former makes this app not very useful.
Lacking
The app is disappointing. You can’t add things to your schedule that you are interested in, but don’t have a ticket for. I buy tickets for my must dos, which are great to have collected into a schedule but then I use generics so I have more flexibility. It be nice to have the option to add events I’m interested in that I don’t have a ticket to or even Sold out events, because often you can show up with a generic and play when a ticket holder is a no show.
Huge Assist
Just needs the option to add events that you don’t have tickets for (such as hours working at a booth) and links to the map from event entries.
Great start!
Love the Schedule tab.
I’d like to see a way to click the room from the schedule to show it on the map.
