Description

Glory to God is an iPad edition of the Presbyterian hymnal Glory to God, with razor-sharp music, powerful search capabilities, sample piano recordings of hymns, interesting information about hymns and their authors, and the ability to access several different versions of hymns including pew, accompaniment, large print, projection, lead sheet, and instrumental (strings, brass, and woodwinds).
This free app includes the pew version of all 235 of the public domain hymns in Glory to God including favorites such as “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling,” “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” and “Take My Life and Let It Be.” You can add various editions of the hymnal, which include copyrighted as well as public domain hymns, with in-app purchases:
• Pew $19.99
• Large Print $24.99
• Accompaniment $49.99
• Accompaniment with FlexScores $99.99

• Cello Edition, $24.99

• Trombone Edition, $24.99
• Trumpet Edition, $24.99
• Tuba Edition, $24.99
• Viola Edition, $24.99
• Violin Edition, $24.99
For each hymn there is a page of information that may include a description of the hymn, a brief biography of the author or composer, and information for worship leaders such as performance suggestions and available arrangements. A brief audio clip is also available.
The search box allows you to search for hymns by first line, author, composer, topic, or scripture passages quoted or alluded to. You can also jump immediately to a hymn by number.
The Accompaniment with FlexScores edition includes everything in the other editions and adds our revolutionary FlexScores for most of the hymns. These include large print, lead sheet, projection, and instrumental versions. Users are able to adjust the music and text size of the scores and transpose them.
The versions offered for FlexScores include accompaniment, pew, lead sheet, projection, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, alto saxophone, soprano or tenor saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba. For the instrumental versions, the music is transposed into an appropriate range and displayed in an appropriate clef for the instrument. The projection version enables you to connect the iPad to a projector and project hymns onto a screen.
A network connection is required to play audio samples and view FlexScores.
Note that while editions (such as the Pew Edition or Accompaniment with FlexScores Edition) of the hymnal can be transferred to other devices, individual FlexScores -- both the $1.99 and $9.99 versions -- cannot be transferred to other devices.

Glory to God Hymnal Reviews

Printing

I paid for the pew and accompaniment editions. Why can I not print a hymn?? I’m at home and need to print a page before I’m back at church (where we have the pew, accompaniment and large print hymnals), but I can’t do it. Am I missing something after paying so much??

Exactly what I wanted

Lucky_day on

This is exactly what I wanted for my personal devotion at a great price. I wonder if it might be worth adding an option to buy a full midi file from inside the app? Thanks for the hard work.

Good, but needs work.

I like this because I am always needing a hymnal to plan on the go. But, as an organist, this is not music performer friendly. There needs to be a way to incorporate two page hymns for playing. Other than that,I love this. I look forward to using it for Sunday services!

One verse per page doesn’t work in update - UPDATED

PittOrgel on

United States

The latest update to the app still shows the option to view one verse per page, but the button is grayed out and can not be turned on. Specifically, I was trying with FlexScore Projection (melody) but I tried it with other views as well and it does not work with any of them. UPDATE: The rollout of the updated app was really rough, but they have been very attentive to fixing all the problems. I appreciate them addressing all the issues.

Do not purchase this app

I do not even give it one star. No longer able to listen to the tunes or even see the hymns since the last update. Even public domain hymns are said to be copyrighted. Was once an invaluable tool, now a waste of money spent. Says needs network connection although connected to internet. There is not a place to “connect” on the app to clear this message. So very disappointed in what was once a great app for helping learn new hymns.

Suddenly the hymnal is not opening correctly

Phledd on

After the last update on November 2, 2020, suddenly the hymnal is no longer working! All I see is just a blank search box on the purple field. It appears that somehow Hynnary.org has lost my subscription. This is really a big problem.

Updated Review

ericledermann on

Several items that were poorly conceived in the last major update were fixed — for instance not being able to view one verse at a time. The intuitiveness of the app is still an issue. Opening every time to the search screen is tiresome. I wish it opened to my last opened page, as it previously did. They also brought back the 10-key input for hymn numbers—why it was taken away is a wonder. Thank you to the developers who responded quickly to fix the the new fixes. I’m still not entirely clear on why the major update was necessary. In any case, the app is once again useful for quickly pick hymns (and hear the tunes for those of us less musically educated pastors).

Welcome, and unwelcome changes

I have used this app every week I have led worship as a Presbyterian pastor. Overall, it’s been positive and very useful. I’m glad they have modernized the app with this latest update. It definitely needed it. Double tap for full screen is good. App feels more responsive overall. but who decided to hide often used features of the app (like search and set list) behind a menu button, requiring one additional tap to access when there is so much space along the top? That’s a crazy decision that favors useless space over function. I find moving between editions, with features like transposition and being able to choose verses (which are great), to be significantly less friendly as apparently choosing a smaller fonts and more restricted space was chosen over larger and more expansive. I find this to be true for all the buttons and menus. I hope that these get fixed or adjusted in updates.

Worthless for accompaniment

mathom on

United States

Many hymns are spread across two pages. With no way to view both pages at the same time, this app is worthless. Why would you even sell the Accompaniment edition when it can’t be used for accompaniment. Mind boggling.

Cheated after purchase

ScorpianFan on

United States

I bought the pew edition and was disappointed, since it was nothing like the actual hymnal. Foolishly, I bought the accompanist edition, hoping for an improvement. It worked for a few months. I now have added, deleted and reloaded the app repeatedly and for months have only been able to access the public domain hymns. This publisher should be ashamed of this rip off.
