Gone Home FAQ
Is Gone Home free?
Gone Home is not free (it costs 229.99), however it doesn't contain in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Gone Home legit?
🤔 The Gone Home app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I can’t believe I paid £5 for this, please don’t make same mistake. You literally walk round a house picking up letters and being told were to go next for nothing to happen and just end. Takes a lot for me to write a review also. Requesting refund immediately

After playing Pathless and Edith Finch, both of which I simply adored from this developer, this was a huge disappointment. A bit of a story but 99% aimlessly picking up and opening literally everything in the house in the hope something happens for 20 minutes…then it ends. Normally I wouldn’t leave a bad review but when paying, I felt so so shortchanged.
I never review…
…but this one deserves it. The detail in gameplay is phenomenal. I loved how everything was kept time appropriate- a total nostalgia trip. The writing is beautiful and obviously comes from professionals. This is not a game for quick thrill-seekers. It’s a thinker. This is the perfect game for people who want to chill out, be mildly creeped out and snoop around/deep dive into other peoples’ business. Go for it.
Not Creepy
I love the details and ability to really explore on your own in this game. However, they lead you to believe it’s going to be a creepy mystery, when it’s actually a love story. I have nothing against love stories, and this is a really sweet one, but I was expecting some ghosts or something, and all I got was lightning and flickering lights. I feel a bit let down honestly. Would love a game in this style with some cool paranormal stuff going on!
Not for everyone
I personally found this quite monotonous. You basically walk around a house, picking things up to see if they’re relevant to the story. There’s no challenge to it and no intelligence or skill required. Sometimes the interactivity can be a little buggy (even when it says open drawer, you may find yourself picking up a pencil instead) and the controls on iPad are a bit of a head mash (you’ll find yourself swiping the wrong side of the screen a lot). All in all, a little unfulfilling.
Waste of money
This game lasts 10 minutes . It’s a waste of money.
Beautiful game. Sweet storytelling.
It reminded me of older adventure type of games. Thank you for building this and please do more. I love it for being so open to explore, for its slow pace and well-crafted and atmospheric environment. Great acting and the music make this a gem. Can’t wait for the next like this.
I didn’t think it was short or sad at all
I really enjoyed his game, thought it was very good.
Exploring an unfamiliar empty house, stumbling across snippets of story about what your family has been going through in your absence and all the while being a bit spooked by the possibility of a sinister spirit being present.
The level of interaction was phenomenal, if the house was a bit unrealistically sized.
I loved how the stories unfolded and resolved themselves but I wish there had been more on the parents feelings towards each other.
What is with kids running away from their problems too?!
Otherwise, excellent game, if you like snooping.
Excellent, really enjoyed!
This is a story based game full of detail which reveal clues about the main plot and sub plots. Your encouraged to look through these clues to progress through the game so I can understand why some might not have the patience for this sort of experience. If you like taking your time though and reading through the numerous letters and newspaper articles throughout the house, this can be a really rewarding game. The main story was interesting and had a pleasant and satisfying ending. Think of this as more of a story telling experience and if that’s your thing then this is the game for you!
Great
I was a little bit skeptical because I saw the bad reviews of this game, but I was quite surprised. It’s super detailed and the story is quite an emotional rollercoaster. You can also find out interesting things about the family too, it’s a big house so there is quite a lot of exploring. Only down side is that i personally would’ve liked it to be longer. It lasted me about an hour.
