How much does Learn German cost?
Learn German has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is £22.49.
I’m enjoying using the app, but I can’t fully trust it because there are many grammar and spelling mistakes. It would be good to have a button on each page to report each mistake immediately as there are too many to mention here. I would give it five stars if the mistakes were corrected and there was a way to immediately and easily report the mistakes.
price
Downloaded it. Saw the price. Deleted it. Guys, you cannot charge that price for a grammar app. I know you will tell me it is the price of a few cups of coffe - sure, but there are quite a number of apps that we use and if they are all pricing in at this level then we are just going to delete them.
Not worth the time
Free to download but requires a subscription to access content. You get a month free but u have to sign up for subscription to get it. Not worth getting if you want to see if you can learn the language
Deeply disappointed
I bought a subscription to this app by accident (automatically charging for a year after a free trial) but wanting to make the most of it I have been doing the lessons regularly. Unfortunately, I finished the material within two weeks despite having paid for a year’s worth. The lessons are also edited poorly, I have found many mistakes. There is no possible way to contact the app as I have tried to already.
Good for practice grammar on the go
Good app for practicing German grammar.
I have a first class honours undergraduate degree in German but still like to brush up every so often, so thought I would give this app a try.
Pros: I found it easy to use and each section includes a reference guide. I also like how the sections are laid out by language level and the fact that most of the content is paywall free (but you will sometimes watch adds to view your test results). The app also works well on a phone or iPad and it is much easier to fit a bit of grammar work around your life. The explanations are also quite accessible and simple (in comparison to most grammar books which assume a good working knowledge of English grammar and grammatical terms), I wish this app had existed when I started learning German ten years ago!
Cons: The reference guides don’t cover everything so you might still need to get out a grammar book if you want to do a deep dive on a topic (Hammer’s German Grammar & Usage is the best IMO). You also don’t get access to everything for free but that is to be expected as the developers have to make a living somehow. That being said, I think the packages should be more affordable. £61.99 for a year vs £40 for the Hammer’s grammar set, for example.
Suggestions for improvements:
- It would be nice if there was an option to hear the audio of what you have typed e.g. a sound button I could press for verb conjugation so I can hear that I have typed “ich darf”. Audio is also important for learning languages and sometimes you will pick up an error because it sounds wrong.
- It would also be nice to see more complex concepts covered e.g. valency, Konjunktiv I, Word Order, compound nouns etc.
- It would be great if there were an interactive lesson that taught you / reminded you of the concept (e.g. short animation and guided questions) before you go straight to tests.
Well,
I think it is really good but everything is in German, It is quite tricky to understand the rules.
Great content but makes my phone so hot!
I would love to give this app a higher rating but unfortunately it drains my battery and heats up my phone like crazy it’s so strange as no other app does this...
Good as far as it goes, but limited and some bad errors
I found using the app helpful only up to a point: one weakness is that the “learn it” sections do not all contain the information you need in order to complete the exercises. This means you have to look things up elsewhere.
However I decided to upgrade for £2.99 to unlock some of the more advanced lessons; I was disappointed at how few there were once I’d paid.
More importantly, the tables on possessive pronouns as replacements are completely wrong! Someone has messed up the columns, and the feminine forms are mixed up with neuter forms.
I hope the developers with fix this!
Good
Good very helpful for the grammar points I need to revise. However the app freezes and crashes a lot literally loads
