I have an IPhone X and downloaded the app for my son to play and you are unable to get out of the app once it’s open without restarting your phone, as there is no go back button you need to swipe up to close app and it doesn’t work, please fix- otherwise the game is great my kid loves it.
As a speech pathologist I was so excited to find this app. The tracing/letter formation activity, the fact students are introduced to a limited set of sounds, and the segmentation of words for spelling are fantastic. However I could not recommend this app to parents due to the imprecise pronunciation of the sounds associated with the letters l, r, u and i in particular stood out. Hopefully this can be improved as this app has great potential.
I looked for a long time to find a suitable app to introduce my four year old grandson to the alphabet letters that taught the READING sounds of the letters. He can touch the letter and it will say its SOUND. He can then touch a word starting with the letter and it will say the word. Then he can touch a dotted letter and a wonderful Hairy creature follows the dots as if writing it and then the child can copy. Added to this is an animated appropropriate illustration. My grandson loved using the app and I could see the fun learning.
My six year old son ended Kindergarten (where a non-phonetics based reading approach was adopted) completely confused about letters, sounds and reading, and with a very discouraged attitude towards learning to read in general. Hairy Letters was a real breakthrough for us - It presented the concept of phonetics in a way which made him laugh and made him excited to learn. Although it is a tablet-based approach, we were able to sit with him and encourage him, which made it a group activity. He quickly progressed through the levels, and his learning curve has been unbelievable. Highly recommended.
Awesome app for the family
I use this app with children with disabilities as an additional literacy aid. Its my fav of many i use. My students love the interactive "play" & the "reward" of music if you know where to look. My 4 y.o without a disability loved using it too. Loved by everyone I work with. Highly recommended.
Great app for kids, love it.
Lovely game lots of growth in there for letter and sound recognition. If only someone could design and "pen" that is used with a more normal movement it would make it even more transferable.
This is a good fun program and very motivating. It would be great if it came in other fonts to match the school curriculum (Queensland Australia). Numbers would be good too. It could have a reward system of a hairy letter creature that you can print out!!!!!!!!!!
