Good for children learning to read
App Stability: 3 stars out of 5 App Usefulness: 4 stars out of 5 I have a 3 year old daughter who is a great Hairy Maclary fan. We have all the books and the audio CD. The application is read a good slow pace for a child learning to read. The words are highlighted as the narrator reads the story. Your child can stop the narrative and select individual word repeatedly to the extent that you can be driven mad. For some reason my daughter loves the word from. 20 minutes of "from" does eventually result in the iPad being removed from daughter's hands. :D The app also allows your child stop and colour the pictures with a built in paint program. The original colouring or the new colours from your child can be displayed. While the painting is somewhat primitive it does engage a 3 year. My daughter picked up the operation of the app quickly and switches between the painting and the narrative on the fly. I do sit and help her understand the association between the words and the narrative but she can and does use it by herself. On a negative note the app has crashed a bit more than expected However all my iPads crash more than expected. So nothing new. N Side note: For you Doctor Who fans, the narrator is David Tennant the Tenth Doctor. He is an excellent animated narrator and read the story with his Scottish accent. My daughter is use to rolled r's so the accent is not a problem. But some children unfamiliar with the accent may have problems
