Hammer Cards FAQ
Is Hammer Cards free?
Yes, Hammer Cards is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Hammer Cards legit?
Not enough reviews to make a reliable assessment. The app needs more user feedback.
This app convinced me to start learning Japanese again and is amazing so far, but I’d really be excited to see more languages added.
When I signed in it said that might be happening so I’m crossing my fingers for now. I’d be most interested in the adding of Mandarin or Cantonese.
Good choice for kana flashcards
Its simple, and- for me - effective. Theres enough options to keep it interesting (and Ive only used the few most basic ones). And ive learned a ton in the last week just by a few 5 minute sessions a day. (I did have a few informal kana lessons before, so i wasnt exactly starting from scratch). I would recommend looking up the origins of Japanese writing- it helped me understand what i was trying to memorize.)
Great for reinforcement
The rapid mode allows you to quickly reinforce kanji that you’re already aware of. Great supplement to learning via Anki or other SRS/reading.
Fantastic App
It’s simple, fun, and encourages you to keep studying with rewards. I’ve used it as my main source for memorizing kanji and it’s been extremely effective.
Review of Hammer Cards - Japanese.
Finally! This is a flash card app that is easy to use, is actually useful in acquiring the language, and not buggy to the point of being useless.
Better than anki imo
I tried anki, multiple times, and it never worked for me. This app is really nice! It’s neat, easy to use, and I've already learned a bunch of words from it!
Almost perfect
Very user friendly interface, free, and offers a pretty good set of vocabulary. The only thing I wish is that they had community made decks that you could import. Otherwise, great app. Currently I am using this and wanikani for my kanji and vocabulary and it’s working well.
So simple and nice
It’s a great app.
I like it better than other popular flash card programs / apps.
Try it out!
So much potential.
The visual design could use work, but from where I stand it seems to be a very good tool for learning. From what I’ve seen after one day it has a couple things that make it stand out from other language learning apps. A badge system, which from here is underdeveloped but still quite interesting and a randomized audio stream, creating randomized sentences out of any words that you study. The badge system is clearly in its early stage, but you earn them from studying and it’s just pictures of Japanese food, and some are more or less common, and you can trade them like Pokémon. I really really like that you have all these customization options for the audio stream and that they even stay on in the background and repeat after finishing. This makes it good to sleeping to for more immersion. I hope the badge system is expanded on, so it could have more than a picture and name and rarity, and that you add many more badges and even descriptions to them. It could be anything, like Tokyo and any history or culture attached to it would be a great example, or Godzilla, or chopsticks or whatever. Really cool. As for the audio stream that could be expanded on as well, like being able to play music with it on in the background at the same time. With that it could be cool enough to work out to or even sleep to. Anyways, best of luck. I hope to see this expanded on.
