HanDBase for iPad Reviews

Update June 2023 Needs Work

NCTraveler on

I've used this product for years and like it, but it has some challenges, especially on the iPad mini. The newest update broke my most important form with some sort of dimension change. The title bar is very hard to read in light mode with blue on dark gray. Had to restore my iPad to go back to the prior version.

This used to good.

There is no way to save on newer iPad. Worked just fine on my old one.

Loose Ends

I’ve been a HanDBase user in the past and recently had a need for a database on my iPad. So I went back to HanDBase, paid the fee, downloaded the app and got to work. Having entered a small but significant amount of data, I decided to test out how HanDBase could be used to back up this data and thus protect me from future data loss. Unfortunately, the Desktop Connect feature that I used to use on the HanDBase version on my iPhone doesn’t seem to work on the iPad version of the app. I went to ddhsoftware’s support site but couldn’t find help there. I also noted that the support site seems quite outdated (meaning the content, not the form). This leads me to ask the following question: Is HanDBase for iPad being actively supported?

Import

Jpechie on

United States

I see no way to import a CSV file into Handbase on a iPad without using a pc or mac. How is that not possible in 2021. If I would have known I wouldn’t have purchased the software. The software is worthless to me. Congrats, you beat me for $10.

Update?

I noticed that it has been a year since the last time anything has been done with the app by the developer. A lot of things have advanced since that short time ago. Is there any chance that there will be a Major update to the HanDBase app? I use this application quite a lot, and every time I open the app l am reminded of Windows 95 or maybe the version just after dos 3. Please bring the app forward since the start of the GUI and present us with something new and fresh. Please.

There is no query function in this database, without that function it is just like using a spreadsheet.

Needs iCloud syncing or saving

HandBase can create databases easily. Love how can update on the fly by assigning new field types and views. Would like to have option to store db file on cloud service to use with iPhone and iPad.

I have been using HanDBase for a About 6 years and have 2 system critical databases. First is our Church’s Assets control database It consists of several linked databases. Building linked to Rooms. Rooms are linked inventoryMasterfile Groups linked to models, models to inventoryMasterfile Groupcodes liked to groups Transaction codes linked to transactions Transaction linked to inventoryMasterfile The second is a database I create using HanDBase for a non profit sailing SailCTAccess.org Organization has a non critical link to members Membership type codes linked membership types Membership type linked to members ICE contact info linked to members Photo of release Photo of Member Sailing dates and trips linked to members Before I stared using HanDBase, I was an executive Dbase designer for a large national company. A brain injury and couple strokes later, I can,t do what I did before, but I can assure you, HanDBase has it all.

Not worth the effort

Spoinlar on

This app has a lot of potential, but it's honestly not worth the effort to set up. The developers don't really seem to "get" iOS app design. For example, when creating a database, there are 100 possible fields in a database, which are presented in a list. This list cannot be reordered, so if you need to add a field between the current field 3 and field 4 in a list of 20 fields, you'd have to change every field from 4-21, instead of adding one field and just moving it to the position you want it to be. Another example: when entering data in an integer-only field, the app doesn't bring up the numeric keyboard, so there are extra key presses required every time just to bring up the number keys. It may be a good database, but the interface is so bad I never really got to the point that I'd be willing to use it.
