HISTORY: Shows & Documentaries

SCAMMY - nothing enjoyable with constant ad interruptions popping up even though we pay for History as a premium add-on, we suffer through and they get paid twice. App on ipad is so buggy the entire thing inverts itself and you have to force quit it. Why? To make us watch more ads again! Shameful behavior History Channel! smh

It’s way way way too many ads. It’s almost unwatchable and sometimes IS unwatchable. I go searching for clips on YouTube rather than try to watch on the app.

So, now that I’ve purchased a compatible streaming app specifically so I can watch the “locked episodes”, I STILL have to watch literally 7 commercials every 5 minutes! The episodes are 41 min long WITH commercials! I don’t think it’s fair to have to pay to watch all episodes of my favorite shows AND still have to watch so many commercials! I really love the shows on the History channel but I think there should be a way to pay for no-commercials like Discovery+ had.

The History Channel application blows. Doesn’t work well with chromecast. If you pause something and come back later it doesn’t save your spot.

Worth the money. I’m 62 and don’t care much for all this electronic nonsense. Some of the shows are ok.

I love the History Channel but I cringe just thinking about watching a show on this app on my phone, Roku or on my Samsung TV. It’s buggy, slow, sludgy and I’ve probably spent 20% of my time watching the spinning wheel of doom. The ad experience is horrible. I get it, you have to pay the bills, but the UX is bad. Super slow to load and then if you rewind even a few seconds, chances are you end up getting served with another slew of 6 ads. I actually stopped watching shows because of these issues.

I want to love this app and what it offers but it constantly freezes and buffers and gets stuck. We have to restart it almost every commercial break. It’s not an internet connection problem. It’s the app. Please fix the bugs.

If you’re not gonna show the commercial, can you turn that stupid sound off and just show the history channel logo? So-called music is enough to drive me crazy. I don’t even wanna watch alone because of it. Alone is my favorite program.

Folks, you might get fooled into thinking that a show looks worth putting up with the app but rest assured, you will be wrong. Reality on the app is that you get about 12 minutes of video before getting punished with 3-4 minutes of ads. Much worse than commercial television and much worse than watching the channel live. And then there are the ads themselves: nothing you haven’t already seen way too many times and of course the drug commercials which I guess History is getting huge money for. Sometimes it’s programming stupidity but apps like this should be legislated out of business. Updating on 6/20/24: The commercials are now even worse. 7 minutes of content cost you 2-3 minutes of ads. And those ads are some of the worst you can imagine: experimental drugs being the basic norm.

Mountain men, serpent invasion, alaskan mountain men are my favorite shows. I am always watching all new season shows and learning a lot of skills from the men who are living. Hopefully history channel has more wildlife shows such as farming……. Thanks history team.
