Description

iImprov - Bebop
This latest in the iImprov series from Jazz Apps Mobile is designed to help take the mystery out of the language of Bebop. There are 9 comprehensive lessons and 8 JAM- A-longs.
Each lesson contains a detailed explanation as well as exercises, transposable notation and tempo-adjustable audio examples. Many of the concepts are also demoed by saxophonist Tony Bray at the end of the lessons.
The topics covered include:
- How to fully realize the bebop scale through strategic placement of half steps to ultimately include all twelve notes of the chromatic scale while maintaining appropriate chord colors.
- How to develop longer phrases.
- Turnarounds and chord substitutions. (Includes tempo adjustable examples that loop and transpose for practicing over.)
- A breakdown of the Confirmation sequence. - Various approaches to playing over I Got Rhythm changes.
JAM-A-longs include individually created files for each key. Each will loop indefinitely, all keys are covered and tempos are adjustable. The included JAM-A-longs are:
- V7
- II V I
- I Got Rhythm 1
- I Got Rhythm 2
- Confirmation Sequence
- Turnaround 1
- Turnaround 2
- Turnaround 3
As with other other Jazz Apps Mobile apps, you can set the notation clef and the overall transposition for your specific instrument and there is balance control for the JAM-A-Longs.
Happy Practicing!

College Level Explanation

I went to school for music and jazz improv was my favorite course. We all wished at the end of the semester that we had more time to focus on the material because it was so valuable. Also because the school had us studying so many things at once This app is the finest, portable replacement for that course I’ve ever seen. The material is wonderfully explained with clear audio examples and study material. Definitely recommended for any musician that’s mastered their modes and want to know what to do with them in Bebop.

This app is a terrific instructional tool for the budding bebop player. It really cleared a lot of things up for me. I ended up buying a few more of their iImprov apps because I was so impressed. Well done and keep 'em coming!

This a handy lesson/practice app for all levels. Very powerful. Can play in all keys and alters charts instantly to whatever key you want. Can also play examples and loops at whatever tempo you want. I like it so much that I am likely the others by this developer.

This series of apps is outstanding. Presented in a simple, concise manner, the exercises allow you to really hear and internalize the concepts being explained. Working the pattern through all keys is easy with the jam along, in addition to being able to change keys on the same page as the example. I've gotten so much out of just learning one pattern in the bebop b3/b5/b6 exercise that it's expanded my note choices and ideas in all my playing. Thanks so much for taking the mystery out of how to play outside the diatonic scale, yet still sound completely inside the chord-how to do that fluidly has plagued me for years, now it's all starting to come together and make sense.

Great app!
