This is an excellent app. The explanations are clear and accurate and it is a terrific aid to learning the Japanese writing system.
This is an absolutely amazing app for a beginner learning the stroke order and characters in hiragana and katakana. The customisable tests allow me to memorise and retain information in a positive and efficient way!
Bought the app to practice katakana and immediately discovered that "select for practice" does not work for the speed recognition test, instead including every single character. So basically you have to be tested on all katakana at once.
And keeps getting better and better! Thanks.
First of all this is probably the best, most well laid out for learning kana that is out there. Gives you everything you need to know and learn about every hiragana and katakana character including pronunciation and stroke order. HOWEVER, the reason I gave this only 4 stars is because the app does not give the option to shuffle the flash cards, meaning they are always in 'a-i-u-e-o' order, which makes it hard for me to test my knowledge because I know the romaji order so well. If you added this function the app would be perfect!
If you were like me using paper to learn the katakana and hiragana symbols you probably learned them based on the table order, I would find when reading kana I would be reciting a row in my head before I recognised the character in front of me.. Now using this app I can get practise in random orders, back to front with romaji to kana and kana to romaji - it's a really great way to learn kana! In a short amount of time I have managed to learn 214 kana, just got another 25 to go!
Simple and very useful, it will help you memorise Kana easily. Could do with an option to set the timer in speed tests, but otherwise a great program.
I have only had this app for a day and I am realy happy with if One update that I would like to see on this one day is when you are doing the practice set there is a Japanese person saying what each symbol is But still 5 stars
Quite good. Much better since the update. I also think that the option to toggle practice flags while in mini-flash-card mode would be useful. I think it does seem better than the other similar kana apps, and does contain both katakana & hiragana, however, It could be developed further to justify the cost. An "enter this kana word in Romanji" function, or vice versa for example.
