Description

Ikiru is a simple but powerful app for making lists, keeping notes and setting reminders. It aims to help you live a productive and meaningful life, by enabling you to focus on the things that are most important to you.

IKIRU IS VERSATILE
Use it to create to do lists, shopping lists, take notes, store contact information, keep track of books to read, or movies to watch... or anything else you'd want to make a list for.

IKIRU IS BEAUTIFUL
With a clean and easy to use design, choose from over 2000 icons to assign to your lists.

IKIRU IS POWERFUL
- create lists within lists

- assign a due date and reminder to list items

- view all items with a due date in one convenient timeline

- add a photo to list items

- drag and drop to sort list items, or automatically keep a list sorted alphabetically, by modification date, completion date, and more

- easily copy or move items from one list to another

- mark items incomplete to return them to their original position in the list (this makes lists easy to reuse)

- send a list via email, and the receiver can import your list into their copy of Ikiru

- view items with due dates on your Apple Watch

IKIRU KEEPS YOUR DATA SAFE
- automatically back up and sync lists between iOS devices using iCloud

- use Touch ID or a custom passcode to protect your information

IKIRU HAS PURPOSE
The word "ikiru" (ee-kee-roo) means "to live" in Japanese. It's also the title of an Akira Kurosawa film about a man who decides to do something meaningful with his life. Ikiru (the app) is my attempt at doing something meaningful with my life, and hopefully help others live meaningful and productive lives.

IKIRU HAS HISTORY
In 2010 I released a list-making app called "Paperless". From busy moms to airplane pilots to people who needed a little help remembering things after suffering a brain injury, Paperless has been used by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Ikiru is built upon that legacy - incorporating the best ideas from Paperless, greatly improving upon them, and adding big features that people have requested.

I used to love this

Eloquently Emma on

I used to love this and it has been very helpful in the past and I have lists and lists that I have written and used without problem in the past. Unfortunately it keeps losing the recent updates that I make. Yes, it’s supposed to sync to the cloud, but if it forgets the last page of notes that I’d painstakingly tapped out (and refined over the last hour and a half) and then syncs, there’s no way of getting my data back. I don’t know why it lost my data - maybe I closed it before it had a chance to sync or accidentally shook it and it decided to do the Shake to Undo thing (is there a way to switch that off) without me noticing and somehow acknowledged it, or maybe it broke when I walked to an area with no phone or Wi-Fi signal. Whatever happened, it doesn’t matter, my updates are gone and so it my confidence in this app. If as well as the cloud sync option, I had a manual save or even an Update Now option and a way to choose which file to load then this would not be a problem. But at the moment while, I really want to recommend it but I would struggle to do so.

Lists!

When this app was released I migrated over from Paperless. The interface is very clean and quite intuitive. You swipe right to cross an item off the list when it’s done, or swipe left to delete it. Very handy for shopping or packing lists. Cloud syncing works seamlessly between devices and also provides data backup. The app was broken after the iOS 13 update but the developer responded quickly and fixed the bug after I reported it here. Now working perfectly again.

I’m so disappointed

Darrel Cartwright on

I’ve used Paperless for years so was optimistic about the same developer releasing Ikiru. However, I got round to downloading it today and I’m sorry to say I’m just so disappointed. In terms of GUI and functionality, for me paperless runs rings around Ikiru. I like having a checklist where I can see at a glance which items are still outstanding. I like having icons I can see at a glance, coloured and bold. Other reviewers are right – Ikiru is a hard App to use in dim light with its blueprint style. I regret spending £4.99 on this app which I expected to be better than Paperless but isn’t even a match for it.

Good app

This could be my #1 app..but not yet. It’s almost there. When you use the lists in lists capability the back button is a real chore, please add ‘swipe for back’ action. Also would love to see an option to resize the font.

Ideal

jenkirby on

I read a book about how to be successful despite poor health. The author advised not having deadlines so I have been searching for an app to organise my work without compulsory todo dates. Ikiru is ideal. Being able to reorganise my lists so easily is perfect for me. There’s only one thing that I would like. That is to be able to change an item to a list or vice versa. But it will be good for me to learn to be more organised.

By far the best list app going

Really clean, functional and easy to use. You can set up whatever folders you like, easily import and export, and the design is lovely. It wipes the floor with some of the more popular, well-known solutions and even lets you add photos. I also love the icons (and much prefer them to the ones in Paperless). It may look like a paper-style list app but Ikiru is much more powerful than that. You can use it however you like. Want an inbox folder where you can empty your brain? You can make one. Want a list of when all your tasks are due? Click on the clock icon and voila. If you want you can just list tasks on the main screen and not put any of them into separate lists. It also has powerful import/export features. The import feature is one of the things that makes Ikiru such a gem. You can type a whole list in one window, putting line breaks before each new task. Or you can copy and paste things like recipes and get Ikiru to split them up into individual tasks. And if you want to export and share, you can do this with a list (and all its sub-lists), all your tasks, all completed or all uncompleted. It also works well for making notes (and while the app isn’t multi-platform, you can easily share and export). You can include clickable URLs and add a photo. The only notable thing you can’t do is add tags, labels or contexts to your tasks. Items appear wherever you put them (in a list or on the main screen) and also appear under due dates if they have them. Personally I’m fine with this though, as I wouldn’t use those options anyway (categorising everything in every possible way is often a waste of time rather than a way of being productive). I don’t understand why this app isn’t more well-known. It’s both better and cheaper than many other apps, and well worth the asking price.

Just what I was looking for

ArachneSings on

A perfect fit for my requirements. It does nothing more and nothing less, so is not encumbered with unwanted and unused features. However, I wish I’d known about it before I purchased Paperless literally five minutes earlier! Needless to say, this app, which uses iCloud instead of Dropbox, has the date due feature, and lets you create lists within lists, is much better. I actually don’t think Paperless should still be on sale to new purchasers in the App Store.

Was good until today 17 November 17

It looks like my IOS 9.3.5 isn't comparable with the latest upgrade. Have posted to developers to find out why. Can't even get Paperless to download, very cross.

Great until the latest ios update 😕

Was really pleased with this app but it now keeps freezing. Looking for another option

Location?

fredgb46 on

This is potentially a very good list app but the one most significant function missing is the ability to have a reminder related to 'location'. This is particularly important for grocery or shopping lists. I contacted the developer asking if this was something that the next or future updates might include, but so far I have not had the courtesy of a reply.
