An absolute lifesaver of app while moving around or getting lost in the Tokyo jungle or anywhere in Japan. Easy to use and full of excellent information, all travel routes with fare pricing and station exit information. Can use a fair bit of data though, so make sure you’ve got unlimited data
I was sent a link to the JNTO website about cycling the Shimanami Kaido trail. It looks very interesting. I thought maybe I could bookmark it or ‘heart’ it for future reference in the app. I can NOT. I can’t even find it mentioned in the app. Often on websites a window will pop open saying this experience would be better in the app. The JNTO doesn’t offer this as obviously the app is not as good as the website. User beware.
This app was absolutely brilliant for our two week tour of Japan. I got a data sim on arrival (from BicCamera) and used this daily to work out travel routes - particularly in smaller places without English signage, the app told us which platform to go to at stations, the cost of trips and whether they could be on the JR pass, IC card etc. Strongly recommended- and all in a free app! I did find for walking trips google maps was a bit easier to follow with clearer graphics, but for all public transport trips this was a must.
We used this app everyday for 3 weeks. It made travel so easy. The train times even had the up to date delays. Couldn’t have had such a successful trip without it.
Japan official travel app was developed by Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), is a reliable and accurate tool for traveling in Japan. Includes a route to find transport options, weather forecast, travel alerts. Language can be setup as English.
Yes this is even better than google maps!!
This is by far the most informative app to have when traveling in japan covers all aspects food, transport, shopping, sightseeing, including up to date pricing
I have selected English but the route planner defaults to Japanese.
