====================================
JVM is a programming language originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems (which has since merged into Oracle Corporation) and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems' JVM platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. JVM applications are typically compiled to bytecode (class file) that can run on any virtual machine regardless of computer architecture. JVM is a general-purpose, concurrent, class-based, object-oriented language that is specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere", meaning that code that runs on one platform does not need to be recompiled to run on another. JVM is currently one of the most popular programming languages in use, particularly for client-server web applications, with a reported 10 million users.
The original and reference implementation JVM compilers, virtual machines, and class libraries were developed by Sun from 1995. As of May 2007, in compliance with the specifications of the JVM Community Process, Sun relicensed most of its JVM technologies under the GNU General Public License. Others have also developed alternative implementations of these Sun technologies, such as the GNU Compiler for JVM and GNU Classpath.
James Gosling, Mike Sheridan, and Patrick Naughton initiated the JVM language project in June 1991. JVM was originally designed for interactive television, but it was too advanced for the digital cable television industry at the time. The language was initially called Oak after an oak tree that stood outside Gosling's office; it went by the name Green later, and was later renamed JVM, from JVM coffee, said to be consumed in large quantities by the language's creators. Gosling aimed to implement a virtual machine and a language that had a familiar C/C++ style of notation.
Sun Microsystems released the first public implementation as JVM 1.0 in 1995. It promised "Write Once, Run Anywhere" (WORA), providing no-cost run-times on popular platforms. Fairly secure and featuring configurable security, it allowed network- and file-access restrictions. Major web browsers soon incorporated the ability to run JVM applets within web pages, and JVM quickly became popular. In 2006, for marketing purposes, Sun renamed new J2 versions as JVM EE, JVM ME, and JVM SE, respectively.

Shallow experience

Drew the short straw and compiled the example code. Turns out you only get one free compilation.. Maybe if we’d get 5-10 test compilations to see how the app works I would pay 30 SEK for the full app. But for something that might work very well or not at all it’s not worth the gamble. Something to keep in mind as well: Did not find any “auto-complete” option for the app either if you’re on mobile/tablet that’d be an absolute godsend! I’m sure if you spend the bucks the app works great. But I’m not buying something I don’t know if it works or not.

Great app but

I think that you should be able to do inputs while the program is running.

Great app!

It's a great app except it doesn't support keyboard arrow keys. So it's limited when moving around to do changes.

Very impressive!

Very nice, useful and impressive programming (toy) application. Keep up the good work. Waiting for updates!

This isn’t a JVM or a JDK you run on your iPad or iPhone; it’s a shell that sends files off to the cloud to be compiled and run. You have to pay for that, $0.99 for 100 compilations, or $2.99 for unlimited. It doesn’t seem to really have files; I created a file, typed a small java program into it, saved it, and then went to the files application to find it, and it wasn’t found on my iPad. I’ll be deleting the app soon, My hunt for an IDE for the iPad continues.

Slow to compile, Slow to run, Cash grab

Tried to switch to this after my old app was taken down. Major downgrade

Deceptively Free

I will admit that I fell for the “Bait and switch.” You need to pay $3 to compile more than one program after installing the app.

Cannot do user input

The app doesn’t allow you to do any kind of user input with Scanners.
