Description

Prepare for the JLPT exam!
Kanji Draw is the most complete and fun tool to learn and practice Kanji!
The 3 ways to remember a kanji are:
• Associate it with a story or image.
• Associate it with a sound.
• Write the kanji over and over again.
Well, you can do all this with Kanji Draw.

Here's how to use Kanji Draw.
There are 3 modes: STUDY KANJI, READ QUIZ and WRITE QUIZ.
• STUDY KANJI
You typically start with the STUDY MODE. Here you can focus on each kanji.
Write something about it that will help you remember it later, or make a drawing about it.
If you are out of ideas try importing someone else's text or drawing.
You can also take a picture or import an image from your photo gallery, maybe a fun image that you found on the web...
Don't forget to share your text or image with the community!
(if you use Game Center your user name will be displayed next to your creations)
To learn how to use the kanji in japanese, check the details card.
Here you will find the most used words containing the selected kanji, along with the readings in HIRAGANA and ROMAJI.
Tap any word to hear it's reading by a native speaker.
Tapping the icons next to the examples will access an online dictionary with more information and hundreds of sentences. Courtesy of Denshi Jisho (the best online dictionary).
Note: unlike most learning tools out there, Kanji Draw only contains words that are currently used in Japan. No need to waist time looking through hundreds of words that no one uses anymore.
Next, it's practice time!
Select the kanjis that you want to practice and start a quiz. (We recommend practicing about 10 kanji each time)
You have full control of how much help you want during the quiz.
• WRITE QUIZ
Starting with the WRITE QUIZ:
Look at the reading and meanings on the details card and try to guess what is the correct kanji.
You can choose to show your text or drawing and use it as a hint.
Then use your finger to write the correct kanji.
You can start by writing on top of a guide showing the stroke order and direction, and when you're ready, hide this hint and you're on your own.
You can also switch to CHOOSE MODE and simply tap the correct kanji to answer.
• READ QUIZ
The READ QUIZ is similar but you are shown the kanji and must choose the correct meaning.

Note:
Currently Kanji Draw contains all the kanji required for the JLPT N5 & N4 exams.
It also contains the kanji learned on Japan's first and second grades.
And most likely, more kanji will be added by the time you finish learning all this.

We believe we did a great job with Kanji Draw and that it truly is the best and most fun way to study kanji.
And we hope you enjoy it!

Kanji Draw Reviews

A wonderful app with some problems

Clemgakusei on

Italy

This app is wonderful, I tried TONS of app and this is the best for learning kanji for sure. There are so many ways to test your knowledge and the graphic is so good. But. You pay to have the kanjis of jlpt n5 and n4 and this can be a little too much BUT it is written in the description of this app. The major problem for me is that, when I tried to create a new lesson (to include only jlpt n5 kanjis) I couldn’t find the way to add more than one...how should I separate the kanjis when I list them, to make the app recognize them? I wrote 二 and that was ok, then I added 三 and it said ‘0 kanji found’...I tried to put space, comma, Japanese point 。...nothing worked.

What a pity!

A very well done app! Unfortunately, it has lots of problems! The worst is that, after paying for the complete version, I discover that just a very small number of kanji are available! I pay but they tell me I can add some new lessons! ‘I’ have to do that? ‘I’ have to add draws, I have to make exercises! 4,99€ for what? A nice graphic?

Well made app

The app is very very cute, but since first downloading it says error with iTunes for buy the extended version. I would love it! :(

What even is this app?

I came here to learn kanji but when I open the app I see a zoomed in picture of a textbook page, but such that you can only see half of the page. It doesn’t allow you to scrub across the page either. It does, however allow you to scroll down to what appears to be a child’s artwork, which is quite cute but not at all helpful for learning Japanese.

Incomplete

This demo version had me really excited, and I was ready to purchase the full version. Unfortunately 300 is not nearly enough for me. Bump it up to 2000 for the JLPT N1 and I’ll buy in a heartbeat. Also disappointing that I had to search comments to find out how many the paid version had to offer. This really ought to be on both the app presentation and at the point of purchase....

Best one so far

SteelDanno on

United States

This app is very smooth. I’ve tried lots of Kanji apps and this one combines many elements to help you learn as fast as possible. I’m using it on an iPad and it’s smooth, fast, and intuitive to use. The only reason this app doesn’t have more reviews, is that unlike other apps, the developer doesn’t pester you for review. In fact the devs haven’t made it easy to get back here to the App Store to even leave a review! Some of the older reviews here complain about lack of customization and it seems to have been addressed. There’s tons of flexibility for customization. Note to developer: Your app deserves more reviews ... please add a button to leave you a review so you can get more reviews for this excellent app you’ve developed.

Good but I couldn't go to MORE

KP$009 on

At first, the app worked fine; after 2 or 6 years of not being used, it closed the app when I clicked the MORE button. Plz fix the glitch.

Not worth $4.99

Ulysses54321 on

United States

Good user interface. No options to customize and limited on the amount of Kanji.

Uncustomizable

TNewton01 on

United States

I was hoping that this app would allow me to make my own custom kanji list so that I could study what I'm learning in my class. But it does not allow you to do that. Seems like a simple thing to include, so I was surprised that it wasn't. This greatly reduces the app's usefulness to me. Otherwise, the design seems pretty good.
