Kanji Star Reviews

Best Kanji App Out There

Devi Chan~~~ on

United States

I’m surprised more people haven’t tried this one because this is the best kanji app I’ve found. It’s super comprehensive, has lots of lesson options and a larger and more complete catalog than any other I’ve found. There’s no subscription but a really reasonable one time payment unlocked everything. It’s really the only useful app I’ve found for kanji!

Strokes don’t recognize

ChupathingyX on

United States

After playing with the app for five minutes I found a bug where certain strokes aren’t recognized even if you do them correctly. Other strokes aren’t as precise and accept any input. App won’t let you progress till you get the order right so this is an issue.

Please update!

It’s a great app. I purchased it a few days ago and now it won’t work with iOS 11. Can you please update it? It’s a wonderful tool but I can’t even access it anymore...

Best kanji app I've used

Kusurisuri on

United States

It actually forces me to memorize how to write them. Love this app!

Only one improvement

Kenjhee on

United States

This is by far my favorite kanji learning app. My only complaint is that it still uses the old four-level JLPT categories. I was informed by support email that upgrade to the current five-level system (N5-N1) is in the works, or I can just use the custom list feature that has also been promised. Other than that, this is a very addictive application.

One complaint…

The app is absolutely perfect on it's own (though if you're really serious about Japanese, the in app purchase is GREAT!). However, the ability to search a kanji would make it a 5-star app!!!

A Practical app

animelord2 on

United States

It's an okay app. It's really helpful that it has nearly all the joyo kanji (I don't know why it's missing 2 out of 2,136) . The app shows no signs of glitches . The versatility and performance of practicing handwriting strokes on here is amazing . CONS : no audio recordings from native speakers/ this apps deserves a searchbar to type in and search for the the kanji you just learned so you can review both of the readings or stroke order/no sentence examples for the kanji / and there's nothing on here about radicals

Very best kanji app I've found

Squid and Whale on

United States

This app is much better than using normal flash cards. And it's actually surprisingly fun and addicting. For low level kanji that I just need to refresh, I actually do some while listening to podcasts, so it's no work at all. I wouldn't recommend that for learning new kanji, however. The thing that prevents me from giving a perfect score is the lack of customized lists. Most people learn kanji using books of mnemonic devices and therefore have to follow that kanji order instead of the JLPT order. I find myself using this app less than I'd like to. Still this is an excellent app. Highly recommended!

Fantastic App

Appleuser1121345 on

Excellent app. This is exactly what I was looking for in the App Store. I would really love to see a free draw mode added. There could also be some improvements to the random mode (where I keep getting too many of the same Kanji in a row). I would pay more money for some extra features. Instead of the random mode, better would be if the program knew which kanji you get wrong, and present those more frequently, and hide the easier ones that you get correct every time. Well worth the $1.99 for the Full version.

Will be perfect when custom lists activated

A80513 on

United States

I've tried all the kanji apps out there and this is the fastest, easiest, and clearest. The only problem is that we can't customize lists yet. I am using Japanese for Busy People, which doesn't follow JPLT. The notes say custom lists are coming soon. I can't wait! A kana version would also be good to help review stroke order easily.
