Killer Sudoku Reviews

Excellent, love it.

This app works so well, really well thought out and no ads…well not yet anyway but i’m sure they will come. Most of these games have so many ads that it becomes impossible to play anymore. Personally i’d rather just pay a one off fee to keep it ad free, I understand it’s not a public service but I will certainly never pay monthly. Anyway congratulations to whoever designed this, it’s perfect.

Great app - but

Easy to use and great app, but some puzzles have more than one solution and some require guessing rather than deduction. Biggest problem is you soon run out of puzzles, even if you buy more, after two extra buys, no more are available, shame, have to know use alternative app. Later addition: he did make more available to purchase but these soon ran out, then found when trying to buy more that he was just reselling the same ones and charging for them, they wouldn’t even work because the app recognised you had already solved them! Had to get Apple to refund, shame really was a great app.

Fun

Easy to use, intuitive, well designed. No crazy graphics or flashy gimmicks.

Gets harder with each level

As a killer sudoku expert, I wasn’t sure when I started using this app as the first few puzzles were too easy. However, it gets harder with each level. There are four puzzles on each level and I’m up to level 5 and looking forward to continuing. Still easy at present but great for a 15-min coffee break. Would like to add that I like the grids. Some symmetry and no blocks with a single number (unlike some other less polished apps).

The best

This is the best Killer sudoku app I’ve come across. Nice simple interface (IMHO its better if you change the line colour to dark green in settings). The way it handles pencil marks is brilliant. Just enter more than one number in a cell and it takes them as pencil marks without any need to toggle a special key first. The program just knows. And if there are already pencil marks in the cell, a longer tap ensures you input that single number and overwrite whatever was there before. Also you can put numbers into more than one cell at a time. Just enter them in one cell and slide to copy to as many other cells as you want. What a time saver. It’s utterly no fuss. The easiest data entry ever. This is the app I’ve been looking for ever since I discovered how much more fun Killer is than ordinary sudoku.

Starting on a simple puzzle and gradually adding extra numbers. Great if you are a newbie to killer sudoku. Also challenging to keen puzzlers. I could only get so far here....

Great but could improve

I’ve played a lot of sudoku apps and found many have useful features like: Clearing notes in the same row and column etc when a number is discovered And Shading the different cages in different colours to help the player focus on the right cells. This game doesn’t have those features but what is does do right is: Minimal advertising Loads of puzzles Graded leveling of difficulty so you can push yourself with harder challenges. I can live without the gimmicks and if the developers choose to improve then all the better.

Quite cute, execution issues

This is cute and the 8-cell variant is fun. The problem is that you don’t reliably know whether the erasure mechanism worked properly as it is very poorly marked, and by the time you come across a cell with wrong markings, there is no way to backtrack and you need to start all over again (unless you are looking for hints, which I don’t). Find a way to mark these more visibly and clearly, or people won’t stick with it.

Gone downhill fast

A few months ago I gave this a 5 star review, but at about the start of this year I lost all the KS games that I was in the middle of (if I get stuck I like to go on to another then come back later) and the contents page disappeared (why! It was invaluable) and the new “History” page is useless because you can’t put it into any order that helps you to find the one(s) you’re looking for easily. And if you can’t finish one at any particular level you can’t try doing the next one at the same level. Frankly, it’s a mess. It’s a great shame because it used to be so good that I’d happily have paid for it. I daren’t even buy any of the extra puzzles because it would probably do something crazy like disappear the ones I’m currently working on again.
