Great for learning Japanese
I bought my first book through the in-app store a month or so ago and I’m using the built-in reader. Some observations: A long press on a word brings up the iOS dictionary, but not the translator. If I have trouble with an idiom or grammar, I copy the puzzling passage and paste it into Google Translate or OpenAI. The format of the e-book is EPUB. I have not tried isolating the file for use in other apps. There is a “memo” option where I write the English meaning of new words; this option appears with the same long press that shows the “Dictionary” option. There is no method to export your memos for further study. I found that if I’m going to use the “Memo” feature for vocabulary study, I might as well paste my notes into a flashcard app (e.g. Flashcards Deluxe). Anyway. . . I’m reading オリエント急行を追え and am quite enjoying it. I think other students of the language will, also, find this app useful. I can find books here that are not available elsewhere and the prices are reasonable. I can purchase through Apple Pay and let it worry about the $US/Yen conversion. I have a paperback version of オリエント急行を追え, but the print is so tiny, I need magnifying lenses to read it. This app, of course, lets me use large font sizes. And furigana displays perfectly! If developers figure out how to make the “Memo” feature exportable to study sheets or flashcards, this becomes a 6-star app!
