It's official! We ❤️ Kodable! I have a 7-year-old boy who's not into sports or lego or music, so I had a real problem helping find 'his thing'. Looking at his strengths (he's reserved, thinks logically, and can do math like no one's business) brought me to Kodable.com, a website full of fun puzzles, cute characters, and challenges for every level!
Coding is basically working out a problem, and that starts in the brain, but kids love to play! Kodable brings you the best of both worlds, solving problems while playing games! Creating Fuzz characters is particularly gratifying: when we print them out for his wall, he sees the lines of code that his creation equates to. While he doesn't have to *write* the Javascript code, he gets to read it every morning as he gets dressed 😉
I cannot wait to see where he goes with this tool. It's only been a month, and he's gotten so much enjoyment from it, already we are seeing his self-esteem go up, how lovely is that?!
Whether your child has a natural ability to code or is like me and has to really work for it, Kodable is a super easy way to explore this really useful skill. Try the 7-day trial period, it gives you a real taste of the content. The annual membership subscription was a no-brainer for this family, if every kid's 'thing' was as reasonably priced, us parents would have a lot more disposable income 😉
I honestly was amazed at how much he loves it. He asks all the time for 'Kodable time' and with my laptop in the kitchen, it's easy for me to supervise and help, and I have zero problem with him working on his 'thing': it's in the blood (we are both in IT), it's stretching a hungry little brain, and it makes him happy (huzzah!)
Even if this boy of ours never writes a line of code in his life, Kodable allows him to face a problem, break it down step by step, and (critically) test it before trying to earn the reward, a star on a chart. The fact that you can test each step means things don't overwhelm, and that is phenomenal. It allows him takes each challenge as it comes, and if he struggles (and when I struggle to help him!), Kodable has plenty of simple instructional videos. Wish our generation had had Kodable, it's wonderful!
Glitch in the game
On a planet, there is a glitch with music normally the music is in tune
on a level on the planet it was not in sync it was very, very weird
Dumb app don’t get it
I hate it I can’t even use it without a subscription😡
Review
It is really fun.
Some of the directional coding can take a while to think about it.
Not working
One of the levels, the 4th level of hip, hip, array, just wouldn’t work, even though the test said it would. I’m not sure if anyone else has this issue, or if it’s just me.
Wow!
Hi, I’m Vira. I love to play this game.
Kodable
Incredibly glitchy, can’t even open the app without it requiring me to update but also saying updates are unavailable. Fix pls
Free
Back when I first started teaching technology to the elementary students at school, this app was free. Yes, that was a while ago, but the first and second grade students used this app a lot for their critical thinking skills. Now it’s a subscription??? 🤔 Something is wrong with that. Educational apps should remain educational and not for profit. Perhaps a grant of some kind from somewhere would be worth looking into. My opinion.
Now I have grandchildren who I thought would enjoy this, and since I need a subscription, nahhhh. Not so much.
Could use some tweaking
This is one of the most unique and interesting games that I have ever played and that’s saying a lot when your a gamer like me this game lets you play many levels, but you can’t do most of the stuff on there because you have to buy the premium stuff before getting to do like have the levels(and I mean this in the nicest way possible but this game does have those flaws) please write back to!!😃
