No other station captures the Austin Music Experience like KUTX 98.9 FM. What you'll hear is a hand-curated, alternative music mix with a local twist. Our hosts, aka DJ's, have more than 300 years on the radio combined--most of that in Austin. The music staff collaborates on picking the best songs, albums and artists from the great pool of talent that makes Austin the "Live Music Capital of the World." You'll be sure to discover new favorites and enjoy familiar tunes with us.
This new version of our app focuses on two things--a high-quality stream and the playlist. We've thrown a couple other things in there too, but this is what our listeners have been asking for, for a long time (sorry!). We're providing an all digital, efficient stream using the AAC+ codec. It sounds great on all platforms, devices, radios and even over cellular. Tap in some headphones and have a listen.
It doesn't matter if you're in Austin, Texas, Minnesota, Alberta or Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the KUTX app brings the Austin Music Experience to you in a clear, digital stream.
If you're also a fan of KUT or our spin on Latin rock, Alt Latino, please download the individual versions of those apps as well. Similar features, but with the same great audio. We've separated the apps so we can bring better and different features to each in the future.
And if you're still using the legacy KUT app, the white one with blues and yellows, please switch to this version and delete the old one. We'll be turning it off this summer along with the low-bitrate streams it only supports, going back to the days when the cellular networks could barely handle 24 kbps streams.
KUTX 98.9 Austin is a public radio station from The University of Texas. We broadcast from the Moody College of Communication in the Belo Center for New Media on campus, bringing you the best of Austin music. We couldn’t do what we do without your continued support. Thanks for listening!
This app hasn’t seen any support or update in 7 years. Lacks features of modern IOS versions. Great radio station, hope they can add more support for this app. Would love to see an option for higher audio quality, better airplay support, and an option to stream recordings of their various shows.
Where are the other two KUTX streams?
I like the app overall, but why aren’t the other two KUTX steams available on it? I can see from the KUTX website there’s an AMX stream that’s all Austin music and a TMX stream that’s all Texas music.
Also, why not put the name and description of the show that I’m currently listening to, in addition to the song and artist? I can see from the Schedule page on kutx.org that there are blocks with certain genres and certain host(s). Would be cool to know that info as well when I’m listening on the app.
One other minor complaint, minor because it’s pretty infrequent. But sometimes it doesn’t display the song title, artist, or playlist in the app for me.
Almost never up-to-date playlist
Ok if you wanna see something that was playing 18 minutes ago, but if you want the current track, gotta launch the player( which has an opener, and delayed from live) if you just want to ID the current song, then your stuck asking Siri. Ancient tech
Alarm
I wish the app had a alarm to wake to.
❤️ KUTX
App not working
I’m on iOS 12.4 and have reinstalled but app won’t play. ... the app has reliably worked forever until just the last few days. Any ideas?
Great
Thanks for the opportunity and great news:music:youtube. Would be great add more categories to the app and artists”musicians” info etc... Discover new artists would be nice and to support or donate
Not bad, but has works erratically
Title says it all. Works erratically. It has trouble crossing from WiFi to cell network. If I’ve stopped using it to listen to some other stream, when I plug in my phone it might start playing. Once it provided a subdued background audio to a face time conversation again it was in an idle state and it just started. It s little weird when your pocket just starts playing music after you let a call go to voicemail. Anyway, on the plus side it’s nice having fewer commercials than TuneIn and the playlist stays up to date more than the web page, except for when you let the kutx app go into an idle state for some reason.
Real DJs and music
Keep up the great work on playing real music and real DJ picking and playing
You need a heart or like button
How else can I support your great DJs when they’re out on a limb playing obscurities?
Need some real-time heart collection. You can rank the songs by hearts.
Also, I think you guys have to teach folks how to stream radio. It’s still new.
Hearties from Houston.
Often doesn’t play
Love the station but the last few weeks, there have been many times the app will not play music. No matter how many times I hit the play button. Hope you can fix this.
