This has taken my new smart light hobby (obsession) to a whole new level. I very rarely write reviews but this one deserves it. It is well thought out and well put together. It is a lot of fun and my smart light visions are now a reality. My first thought is that this probably wouldn't be for a “casual” smart light dabbler, but actually I think it may be perfect for those kind of users as well. You can make things look real impressive without having to put all of the hours into programming and set up that I did. So I say go for it. I have checked around and there is absolutely nothing better. Thanks! Staci
When first downloaded all of the features and functionality were exciting to explore. The UI is super clunky, not intuitive or responsive at all. Fix that and you can have my money but right now not paying for it.
Great app, when it works! And lately it doesn’t. Long startup times which is unacceptable on a flagship iPhone. Once it starts, constant messages that the app is getting your scenes ready all the time now. Starting a new scene takes several minutes, leaving you in the dark. All of this needs fixing pronto for your subscribers.
The app as it is … is pretty solid. There are some lighting effects you won’t find in any other app. My big concern is however there haven’t been any updates to the app in 9 plus months and counting … description says there would be updates for the subscription we pay and new scenes etc, however that seems to have stopped. Was being updated with fixes at least monthly. Developer are you still active or did this app become abandoned?
I liked the app and expected it to be fine when I upgraded to the plan with more than 15 lights but it couldn’t seem to handle it, it always defaulted back to only 15 lights. Uninstalled and reinstalled, restored purchase etc. 15 lights, only 15 lights. Unfortunate because it’s a cool app.
Please be aware that there’s no intuitive way to turn light routines off. I have been trying for weeks to remove some light routines that take place whenever my front lights come on. Even uninstalling the product doesn’t remove the routine. Stopping and removing the routine when it shows up only works until the next day. I’ve tried various times contacting support about this issue and they have not replied. All I can think of doing next is to reset my Hue bridge to factory settings, but then I’ll have to add all of my lights over again. The app is messy, unorganized and not user friendly.
Setup instructions are pretty much non existent. “Connect the bridge to WiFi.” How? Okay, there is an Ethernet plug. Guess I should connect it to the router. “Does the bridge have the latest firmware?” How should I know? How would I update it? Alright, I can connect to it now. “No lights found.” (Tap on X to close message.) “No bridge found.” Really??? Google for how to fix. “Make sure lights are kind that can connect to bridge.” Well that’s what got me here because I realized I needed one after buying them. “Set up manually.” How? The only thing I can do with the app is connect to the bridge so it can tell me it can’t find any lights. This was a big waste of time and money. And now I have two very disappointed kids to add to the headache I will get returning this trash.
Hands-down probably one of the best Hue light control apps in the Apple store. The ability to spatially position the lights in a room makes all the difference. Unfortunately that is a little time-consuming and it would be ideal if the designer could utilize the iOS device’s camera to recognize and plot the bulbs in a room much like the twinkly light app does for Christmas tree lights. One of the great features is that the app draws audio directly from Spotify and Apple Music. It would be nice if you could also have the lights sync to audio tracks played from the sounds in a room via the iOS mic. This would overcome the hurdles of partnership with the various music streaming services or if you just simply wanted to use your local radio station. But other than those minor things this app is stellar! If you have a Phillips Hue lighting system, you need this app!!
What I love most about this app are the impressive scenes. When they do update with news ones I always find a new favorite and they really do help when changing vibes from relaxed to upbeat to when we were living in the BC era (Before Covid) it made entertaining a lot of fun. I’m not sure if it’s just me but it always causes my phone to freeze when music is being synced. And I would really love it if the app could integrate with other devices such Alexa or chrome cast etc etc. instead I often have to delete the app and abandon syncing music to it.
