We get it. You don’t have time to read every single interesting article being shared online. That’s why, since 2019, Later (previously called Abyss) has been the perfect companion to your digital life. With Later, you can save any link from any app or website and read it whenever you’re ready.
Later is available on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It syncs your data via iCloud, which means that everything you do on one device is seamlessly reflected on all of them. Furthermore, your data is only available to you; there are no servers involved, so your data stays 100% private.
Later lets you organize all your important articles between your inbox (things you’ve pending to read) and your archive (things you’ve already read). You can flag links that are important, tag them for better categorization, and even save them offline to read on the go when you don’t have a network connection.
Later lets you bring your previous digital life from services like Pocket, Instapaper, GoodLinks and more. Simply navigate to Later’s settings and tap on “Import/Export”. You’ll be guided on how to bring all your data! Also, Later lets you export all your data in case you’d like to move to another service or keep a backup. By default, Later also saves a daily backup of all your links on your iCloud Drive.

Works great!
I’ve been looking for a app to save my links that’s; free, easy to use, and has tags! And I’m so glad I stumbled on this as it hit all the boxes. Though will update this as I mess with the app more/add all my links + sort them
Helpful
So far the use of Abyss has been satisfactory and works as expected. I don’t do reviews often and it’s nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get 5 stars 🌟 out of me but I have been using Abyss for a while now so I thought I would give it its due
Does it save the site too and not just the link?
First off, five stars automatically for any app like this that respects privacy and giving the user power locally. My question is, is this actually storing part of the website on the device as well? If so, that is awesome and it would replace apps such as Wallabag andstop me from having to need to self host my own server.
Love the app!! There's just one thing...
Hello!
I have been very satisfied with this app since I've started using it. However, with the recent update (Version 4.8) I'm finding it takes more time to save links. Previously, I was good with the way the links were saved and I didn't find it bad to go to the app whenever I had to so the saved links could load. This time, I find it tedious for it to take me to the app itself each time and the loading time takes quite a bit. If it's possible to revert this change or have the option for users to pick between one or the other, that'd be great! Thank you.
Unable to use or update…
Latest update notifies me that it needs iOS 17 in order to update, which I do not currently have. It then prompts me to download an older version, which I already have installed, but when I click yes, it fails to do anything, and then stops ALL the updates of all my other apps! Ummmm….I smell deletion of this app coming.
Almost great! Missing a key feature for me
I really like the sleek iOS ui, rather than the clunky non-native ui other apps I’ve tried use, and the offline functionality is very nice. The main thing I’m really missing from other read-it-later apps is an integrated reader view - I don’t like how links just open in a browser. In particular, I need the ability to remember my place in a long article, rather than loading back to the top when I back out to the inbox then click an article again
The App Works (almost)
On my account, it‘s barely loading any images for preview next to each bookmark. All I get is the first letter of each bookmark.
Love the App
Big fan of the app - just supported the developer by purchasing a license. The only shortcoming of this app is that the desktop version does not support the share extension as the mobile version does. Other than that, this app is perfect for syncing saved webpages across devices and storing them offline.
Responsive developer, great app
Update:
Back to five stars. After the dev responded to my review, I emailed them, as I still couldn’t figure out the updated delete feature. Their quick reply walked me through it (a long press on an individual item or after selecting multiple items) and it’s smoother and easier than ever.
Previous review: Yesterday I would’ve given Abyss 5 stars, even with the UI glitchiness when selecting and deleting links, but today’s update removed (or hid?) the ability to delete. I often toss articles into Abyss throughout the day, to read distraction-free later, but many of them aren’t things I want to keep cluttering up my archive once I’ve read them.
