Very helpful, learning conversational skills fast
Bought lifetime access a while ago—which I’m very grateful for, not having to worry about a monthly subscription fee for an app for a change. I’m getting started with Arabic. After putting hours into Duolingo’s Arabic course, I found myself drawing a complete blank talking with a native speaker. I learned no practical conversational skills whatsoever, just phrases like “new jacket”, “cold chicken.” And the lessons were so slow and repetitive. A few minutes on Mondly got me the practical basics, conversation practice, and a confidence boost right away. Duolingo does offer a better introduction to the alphabet and writing system, and I prefer to expose myself to those while learning rather than English transliterations. Mondly lets me switch back and forth between the two conveniently, but I did appreciate Duolingo’s introduction to the alphabet… it just takes an eternity to get through it all. So, I just learned enough letters to feel comfortable using the Arabic script in Mondly. That’s good enough for now because this many hours in, I want to work on gaining some level of conversational competency—and Mondly is by far the better app for that.
